Martian Child Reviews
I love this movie. Don’t expect an Oscar winner, just watch it for the lovely message about human connection, perseverance over grief and the beauty of a child’s imagination.
This is a touching, thought-provoking film with sci-fi overtones. But, it had a poor ending, with Cusack's "Martian wish" buried in the final dialogue. SPOILER ALERT: Had his girlfriend asked him at the end, "How did you talk him down?" he could have answered, "I just told him that I wished that..." Cut to a quick flashback in the car, and, viola, sci-fi fans are left with the possibility of, well, you know. He softly repeats, "I wished..." with a quizzical look on his face, and then a final shot of Cusack, girlfriend, and son looking up into the sky...
Okay. Not quite Forrest Gump or The Cable Guy.
Has some good ideas every now and then, but this movie is so boring that when we reach the finale you think "oh, we are here already? but we have done basically nothing this entire movie."
Wow the fact that this movie is scored low by critics just totally reinforces that critics are absolute pawns and morons. This was such a sweet, heartfelt movie it is literally on my top 20 list which also includes Oscar winners like the Blind Side. So if you embrace weirdness and kindness this is a movie you will enjoy. John and Joan are authentic and relatable.
Someone makes a movie about the heartache children can experience in foster homes and the adjustment process involved in adoption, and spineless critics call it manipulative.....well I think the critics are manipulative and heartless because they missed the entire moral of the story. Yes it's creative and it's loosely based on an actual case, and maybe it's been fluffed for the masses....but this is a 4 star film and a must watch drama....Amen
As an adoptive parent I see so much truth in this movie. Bringing him into reality slowly was an awesome description of how to help a child from a traumatic background. Maybe it wasn't a box office hit, but it definitely gives a picture of the difficulty of bonding with a kid who has been hurt by his birth parents.
Not a great picture, but fun to watch with only 1 scene where things go from the sublime to the ridiculous.
I liked this movie. The characters are quirky but likable and the little "Nice Talk" sequence is inspired.
This movie was brilliant. A real joy to watch.
A touching story about adoption and how cruel people can be. Great performance from John Cusack and a great soundtrack makes this well worth watching, even if the ending is utterly predictable. It's predictable in a good way as you would expect from a movie like this.
I loved this movie. John Cusack and Bobby Coleman brought it home. I'm still saying "Hot Coffee" and the long version of the "Never ever, ever, ever.....etc. Love it and need to watch it at least once a year!
