Master Gardener Reviews
Slow, lethargic and no plausible explanation of the plot if there was one.
Starts off promising enough but then turns into a road trip movie filled with no surprising surprises. Shouldve been more willing to take risks. Come on Mr. Schrader
From the onset of this film the gardens depicted look shabby despite a team of dedicated gardeners and an owner obsessed with her gardens. Not only do the gardens look less than glorious, neither do the characters in this ho-hum movie. Lives in disarray, not unlike the gardens and one suspects a future of happy ever after isn't likely.
A complex story exploring the possibility for growth. Very well acted and produced.
A surprisingly affecting love story/fairy tale with all seediness, foreboding and menace you expect from Paul Schrader.
Works on so many levels and the acting is excellent. Deep and thought provoking but also intense and well-paced.
Where is the suspense?
Brutal and absolute waist of time, gray for nap taking or going on a date to make out
literally so astronomically boring
The movie was slow at the beginning but did get more interesting. It was a bit confusing.
There’s little redemption & lots of complexity in Master Gardener…that’s just fine as Paul Schrader finishes his “Man in a Room” trilogy with its most unapologetic film.
It was slow. Just OK
Fun to see Sigourney Weaver completely off her rocker, not too much else to say for it
A sick movie that should never have been made.
This is a wonderful film that takes you into the realm of what is acceptable in society and what is not. The gardener is not merely a gardener - but a life coach whose own life was turned around and given a 'second chance' after his years of hatred because that was what he was taught. His unlikely savior to the next step of rejoining the world and what he once stood for is re-invented. Signouney Weaver portrays the grand dame who is like an old garden, if she manages a smile, it is wilted as her views of the world are all controlled by her own parameters. As usual, she gives a fine performance. Joel E., the gardener, has a cement like personality - and lack of facial expressions - more robotic that real - only in his eyes do we catch a glimpse of his inner life or in his flash back dreams do we realize who he once was..Filled with twists and turns, this psychological piece is immersing, however, many will find it boring as it does not go into special f/x or have good pacing - it sometimes becomes a tad boring and weighed down. Those moments are part of the gardener's psyche as well..this is not entertainment as we envision it - but more of a butterfly emerging from a cocoon or more aptly, a seedling growing to a n opening flower.
Tedious and weak story line too much violence. Waste of time
