Me hubiera gustado ver un entrenador más complejo, con sus propios demonios y dudas. Me hubiera gustado ver algo más original, que me sorprendiera, pero no era así. La dirección de Niki Caro es correcta, sin grandes riesgos, y la ambientación logra transmitir la dureza del entorno en el que viven los protagonistas. Sin embargo, la película se queda en lo superficial y no profundiza demasiado en sus historias personales. Todo avanza de forma mecánica, con momentos emotivos que funcionan, pero que nunca sorprenden. A pesar de su falta de originalidad, McFarland es un film que se deja ver. No molesta, pero tampoco deja huella. Para quienes disfruten de este tipo de historias, puede ser una opción entretenida, aunque difícilmente se recuerde con el tiempo. I'm an easy mark when it comes to "Sports Movies". There are too many examples to list off here, but suffice it to say, some of my all-time favorite movies are sports movies. Yes, they can be a bit formulaic, but they are utilizing clichés that I never get tired of. A story of an individual or team, starting off bad, but then through hard work and determination overcome impossible odds and find their moment in the sun. Those story telling tropes will never get old for me. The simple joy of having a character that everyone thinks is no good step up in the final seconds of the championship for the win is so cheesy, but so satisfying. The movie takes a fair share of liberties from the original true story, but what movie doesn't? The movie is very tightly edited, keeping a good pace throughout the story. The only problem is that the movie takes on a little more than it can chew. There are one too many subplots and characters going on in this story, and the movie has a hard time keeping what needs in focus. I am glad that, despite the story taking place in 1987, the film does not feel the need to rub the audience's nose in that fact. It helps give the story a more timeless feel. I like that the film got a PG rating, this is full of themes that kids off all ages can benefit from. Certainly not Costner's best sports movie. But I ran cross country in high school and thusly this movie speaks to me on a higher level. Not all the story points work, and it may not be the most original story, but when it works, it can get me to stand up and cheer.

This is a must-watch for underdog sport stories.

At first glance, it might seem a bit like another "feel good" movie. While characters might lack a bit of depth, take it like a stepping stone bouncing on water, taking you to the other side of a river. It's about the commitment to give a chance to forgotten people, and seeing past appearances. I enjoyed this movie because it tastes like hope and opportunity to turn life around. If you're looking for a family movies about values, opportunity and hope, look no further.

I love the simplicity and transparency with which they present the life of a Mexican migrant in these areas. I also loved how well they deal with violence, it's understandable even though it's not shown, very elegant. The story enchanted me. Kevin Costner... you are wonderful playing this character.

"McFarland, USA" is an old-fashioned Disney live-action feel-good sports film. I liked this movie's story, even when it hit some familiar genre notes. I feel like the movie starts out great but in the second half, it becomes a bit distracted by its subplots. I was most invested in the main sports storyline and when the movie focused on that, I thoroughly enjoyed it. I think Kevin Costner is great as the main character and I enjoyed seeing his change throughout the movie. Overall, it is a wholesome and clean movie that has plenty to enjoy even though it is similar to a lot of other movies in many ways.

This sports drama was very good. Kevin Costner, Maria Bello, Morgan Saylor, Carlos Pratts, and the rest of the cast did a spectacular job in this movie. This true story about the cross country team in McFarland, CA during the 1980s was inspirational, dramatic, and entertaining. It's about proving to yourselves and others that you can accomplish anything no matter who you are and where you're from. If you haven't seen this movie yet, check it out sometime. It's a must see.

Well made, well acted. Hearty viewing. 'McFarland, USA' sees Disney do a true story sports drama for what feels like the billionth time, but there's no disputing they sure do know how to create a wholesome and meaningful film for the genre; despite the clichés and predictability. This is no different, it's very good. Kevin Costner leads astutely as Jim White, while Carlos Pratts is the pick of the bunch when it comes to the younger guys. All of the latter, who play a group of runners that White coaches, are well cast in truth. I felt a connection to the story, thanks to the writing but also to them. It does turn into a very pleasant and enjoyable 128 minutes, it's also quite unique to see a sports film about cross-country running as opposed to the usual basketball, American football etc. Score/cinematography wise, it's good. Definitely watch this if you get the opportunity.

This movie defines what a sports movie should be like. It's exciting, inspiring, interesting, and this movie just gets you absolutely hyped up.

If it weren't based on a true story I'd say "too good to be true" - but it is true. A strong story gently told. Every character worth cheering for, every character undergoing change and learning.
