McQueen Reviews
I'm not interested in most fashion designing, but Alex McQueen's an enigma. I was hooked from beginning to end. Brilliant.
Brilliant from start to finish, I've seen this serval times. It not only shows McQueens work but explains it in such a beautiful way. My issue was a few of the people being interviewed didn't add much to the film.
An interesting introduction to an influential designer that I had not known much about. It made me understand the fashion world a little better.
A touching glimpse into the life of Alexander McQueen. For those who don't know much about the late fashion designer, this will provide you with an eye-opener into the highs and lows of his world and of the fashion industry. Intimate, tragic and mesmerising.
A well made documentary following the rise and eventual tragic end of fashion designer Alexander McQueen. Made up of archive material and interviews with his friends, co-workers and family the film is at its visual best when we see footage of some of the extraordinary shows that made McQueen's name. He is shown for what he was, a huge talent, driven and passionate about what he did almost to the exclusion of everything else. It was this obsession and perhaps the unforgiving world in which he lived that ultimately lead to his suicide as this was a young man who was clearly in trouble and devoured by an insatiable world constantly hungry for the next big thing. Fascinating and awful.
Absolutely brilliant. The build up is intense and inevitable. Not for everyone for sure but I’ve just watched it and loved it. He’s all of us and none of us.
Sad story. A young talented man dead too soon due to schizophrenia set on by drug use. Tragic. It's also the story of a selfish woman who killed herself and thus devastated him. Nicely done doc, but nothing great. WAY too many close ups of the Spanish guy. Very informative if you aren't aware of the the crazy European modern fashion world. One feels they didn't delve deeply enough (or at all) into what made him tick. What a shame. This lovely young man taken so soon. Lost potential. And what nice white teeth he had.
Great footage. Sort of an anthology of his runway shows. Could use more depth on the genius himself.
A well done documentary about a remarkable genius. Regardless what you think of his fashion, there was a definite progression & telling of an extraordinary story of a boy from Stratford who rocked the fashion world on both sides of the channel.
Any other year and this eye-opening look at the world of fashion and one of its most fearless and rebellious designers might have stood out among the crowd as well as introducing many viewers (myself included) to a world they know very little about. In the year of the documentary though, McQueen simply stands as the rule rather than the exception. This isnï¿ 1/2(TM)t necessarily a bad place to be given the present company and while I still might not completely ï¿ 1/2getï¿ 1/2Â? the world of fashion, this doc at least sets the uninitiated on the path to a better understanding and appreciation.
A slightly "too-safe" documentary about the bad boy of British couture, his dazzling and crazy creations and troubled mind.
Tragic yet intriguing look in the life of a genius fashion designer who everybody revered, as accept himself. If your not personally that into the concept of fashion, the subject can drift off sometimes into word scrabble.
Charting the life and career of British designer Lee Alexander McQueen from his humble beginning as an East End 'yob' to a trainee on Saville Row and then bursting onto the fashion scene as one of the youngest and most innovative fashion designer/artist in the last few decades, this documentary stitches together home video footage with interviews of his friends and family to present a life that appears to have burnt most ambitiously and brightly. Perhaps it is because I only have a basic knowledge of McQueen, I find the revelations and insights most intriguing, even though I'll admit his story might be considered a tad clichéd if it has been made up, nevertheless the film turns out to be much more dramatic and engaging than I had expected. The most surprising thing I discovered is how impressive his extraordinary fashion shows were and that they were as much about the clothes as it is about mounting an extraordinary art installation that sashays dangerously and elegantly down a catwalk. Recording and reflecting McQueen's work, Ian Bonhote & Peter Ettedgui's biographical film is likewise similarly gorgeous, daring, and poignant.
I'm no fashion buff, and before this film I knew next to nothing about Alexander McQueen. This film gripped me. The subject was so fascinating, but the way his story was put together was a fitting tribute.
