Metallica: Through the Never Reviews
FUCK YEAH METALLICAAAAAAA
I enjoyed the film back in the days. It was viewed only during night, last slot for the movie cieters. I was a student and have to return back to the dorm hell knows how (it was way too late for the public transport). But I can't forget the live concert feeling for only a cost of a local movie thieter ticket. The film itself is so-so technically, multichannel sound mix is also not quite different from a stereo, computer effects are noticeably low resolution. Though, they get the grip on a live concert feeling which holds you throughout the movie. And rocking chears in the theater, never thought they can do that, but chairs were rocking in rythm till the wery end. It's a pitty for me it's not a commercial success, but I definitely recommend this film for all who appreciate a good live rock concert.
I'm not one for musicals but love concert films! This movie is fantastic especially with my little army of metal head kids that cant go to a live show yet.
Through the never has outstanding performances from all the members James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett & Robert Trujillo, amazing film of excitement and tons of creepy scenes with an invincible horsemen, many scenes reference songs and I was disappointed that they did not play Master Of Puppets when the people are hanging from the street lights, Battery was a perfect timing and so was Enter Sandman. This movie is perfect but not as good as Some Kind Of Monster.
A pleasant surprise if you like moonwalker or pink Floyd the wall then you will like this concert Thriller.
I love Metallica. I seriously love Metallica. I have all the boxed sets. I lose my mind a bit when something Metallica is mentioned or shows up. I feel like I am always the person in the room that know Metallica more than anyone else (I have never been in a room with Metallica). I like this movie. It's fun to watch. But it is missing on every aspect. The premise of Trip is interesting. Actually, just following Trip would make an amazing movie. There is a crazy, interesting, meaningful story there. I want to watch that movie. Unfortunately that story never fully develops, and is too busy being interrupted by Metallica concert shots. But these shots were obviously done for the movie. I want two things: I want a full movie about Trip without Metallica in it at all and I want a full regular concert film of this tour because holy fuck that look like an awesome fucking show — see the Ride the Lightning chair and Tesla coils and shit? That's fucking amazing. I just want to see that. And then I want to see, in a totally different context, Trip setting himself on fire to protect this magical bag full of what I guess is Cliff Burton and defeating the bad guys. I want a full movie of that, with dialogue and a real scenario and everything. Mashed together it is only halfway fulfilling on either end. Fucking tell us what's in the goddamn bag. Seriously. Make a real movie, there's a lot of amazing potential here.
I saw this movie a few months back, around the 5th anniversary of it releases, and I thought it was amazing! Not only was it great to experience a concert from the death magnetic era visually spectacular but the actual story of the movie was good too! In my honest 100% non bias opinion I give Metallica: Through the Never a perfect 5 star rating!
the band obviously rocks it hard and the added talents of Dane DeHan with some great cinematography makes its very enjoyable 90 mins
The concert footage is excellent but the plot alongside it is a little weak and out of place. Had this been a purely concert film, I would have easily given it five stars.
3 Stars They are very good musicians, not my kind of music though but they're talented and gotta respect that
This movie captures the very essence of everything that Metallica has ever done in their entire career worth listening to. Everything wrapped up in a $32 million-dollar commercial failure of what they call a movie. Put aside the side shifting storyline, this is an excellent concert worth every penny they spent on it. If you're a Metallica fan this is a must watch. It was free on Netflix for a while, but now you'll have to rent it. This thing made a little over $7 million dollars, I consider this a triumph for them, but, they are back with the newly anticipated album, Hardwired to Self-Destruct. It's #1 on the album charts, so they are back. And with a vengeance.
Part concert film, part disaster epic, Through the Never is a fun ride filled to the brim with some of Metallica's greatest hits. With stunning visuals and a concert atmosphere so real it feels like you're there, Through the Never is a must see for Metallica fans, and fans of concert films alike.
