Miller's Crossing Reviews
Byrne is simply outstanding as the cool, calculating catalyst around whom the whole vivid spectacle revolves.

The violence, like the rest of Miller's Crossing, is poetically staged, and strangely tasteful. But the movie's real firepower is the staccato slang of its script.

The Coens created an idiosyncratic film with a serpentine plot that demands repeat viewings and still functions as a strong genre film more than three decades after its release.

The images have a talismanic, almost fetishistic quality; they have their own dream logic.

It held my interest from the first frame to the last.

like so many of the Coens best films, it is an enigma, a fleeting and gripping experience that offers itself up and pulls away from us at the same time

Bullet-riddled and crackling with quotable dialogue, Millers Crossing gets a handsome new 2K transfer and a handful of insightful extras.

Joel and Ethan Coen's third film had the misfortune of opening three days after GoodFellas and three months before The Godfather Part III, meaning it got clobbered at the box office. That's a shame, because this was one of the best films of its year.

Given the consistent brilliance of Coens, it's less about how it ranks against the rest and more about just looking at the film for what it is a modern classic.

'Miller's Crossing' might start in knowing satire and a winking brand of precise mimicry but it ends in a haunting existential trap.

Despite the number of great films that [the Coens have] made, this is the one that still stands head and shoulders above the rest.

A film that bases its enormous effectiveness on its actors - it is impossible to highlight only one, all are perfect - and in amazing dialogue. [Full Review in Spanish]

We love these characters because they're flawed and thus allow the Coens to let the story dictate their ends.

...my choice for Joel and Ethan Coen's masterwork.
| Original Score: 4/4 | Mar 9, 2018
[The Coen brothers'] most complicated and dense movie.

...joke-heavy and bullet-riddled and studded with some of the most crackling dialogue heard since 'The Front Page.'

It has always been one of the special pleasures of movies that they dream worlds and map them at the same time. Miller's Crossing dreams a beaut...
