Milli Vanilli Reviews

This was good. It's a more authentic, sympathetic take on their story.

Just a good ole bromance about hanging out with ya bestie and things get a little carried away.

Unfortunately for people my age (a geriatric millennial) or older, there is not much new info to be gleaned from the documentary. It is mostly a rehash of "Behind the Music" including using all the same old music critics (I guess it's nice to see where they are now, too..). There could have been some interesting discussions to be had regarding how now pretty much every musician lip syncs at least when performing live (what first got them in trouble: "girl you know its girl you know its girl you know its.." ) and also the rise of autotune etc, and so in this respect people were too harsh on them, but that is barely touched on. I understand the reason behind that is to make the producer (who is a bad person) look more monstrous and not simply someone banal and slightly ahead of his time, and fair enough, but again, the result is an angle that we've already seen on VH1 years ago. (speaking of, I did not like how the music critics acted like Boney M was successful in America.. that's quite disingenuous. I think their only song to at all make the charts [and quite low] in the US was Sunny, and the only reason we know about Rasputin is because it became a meme on youtube.. which they completely ignore and act like everyone Worldwide knew of it at the time, when really it was only a hit in Europe, maybe even only Eastern Europe..) On top of that, what would have really been interesting would have been to see Fab actually learn how to sing and generally improve his life.. again, it's touched on, but very briefly. Actually following him learning to sing in real time would have been a much more compelling documentary. As such, the end where you get to see him actually singing the Milli Vanilli song incredibly well is very inspiring and a great twist ending, but as a whole the documentary would have been even better if this "redemption" and self improvement was more the focus, rather than tacked on to Behind the Music 2.0.

Fantastic documentary. Beautifully told and shot. It sucks that a lot of these stories end this way.

It's a fantastic documentary. What they did to those guys was absolutely terrible. How anyone can do that to another person is beyond comprehension. Fab is a great guy that really has been able to over come a lot. If you grew up around this time frame you will appreciate the depth with which they cover this story.

Incredible doco about a story I thought I knew. It really creates empathy for the pair, who above anything else, just wanted to make it. Yes, they were talented but made a pact with the devil.

A must see documentary.

I really enjoyed this documentary; gave some great insights into the music industry. Loved hearing about the inside story of the back up singers and the producer for Milli Vanilli. Overall this is a pretty entertaining documentary with a pretty good message at the end.

Fab Morvan comes across as a decent, eloquent guy, such a shame Rob Pilatus is not alive to give his story but appreciate the views of the insiders/record execs. Shame on Frank Farian remaining the coward not commenting on his treatment of the guys. Great documentary, surprised I can't a book on this story?

'Milli Vanilli' is the cautionary tale about a couple of young guys who lip-synched their way to global (especially in the USA) success..and then got found out. It's a well-known tale but what this documentary shows is that the real people behind this fraud got away with it.

Such a fascinating watch. There's so much more to this story than you can ever imagine. Must watch!

It again exposes how the music industry exploits artists, while the powerful people in that industry, like Clive Davis and Frank Farian, suffer absolutely no consequences for their unethical behavior. It also exposes the superficiality of a lot of music fans. They bought the album because they claimed they loved the songs, when really, they only loved the image of Rob and Fab lip-syncing those songs.

Good documentary but very slow. I would have liked the producer's input as well.

Outstanding documentary. Truly feel bad for how they were taken advantage of in the beginning and in the contract. A joke they took the biggest fall yet the producers and executives had little fallout.

This showbiz documentary was very good. Fab Morvan and the entire crew did a spectacular job on telling the story behind the Milli Vanilli music scandal. They go into what went down during this dark time and what happened later on. It's a sad story of cheating to get to the top and paying the price for it later. If you haven't seen this documentary yet, check it out sometime. It's a definite must see.

I enjoyed this movie. I knew some of the story. But, the wrong people suffered. I shed a few tears watching what happened to these guys that were just puppets. I had their record. I think that people that were around back then would enjoy this movie. And never before or after has the people that award Grammys said that they want their award back.

Living though this time , it was great to get a look at the true story behind the scandal and the affect it had on the lives of these guys. Sad, very interesting and touching. Well done!

I thought they did a great job of telling the heartbreaking story of greed and corruption by the industry and not Milli Vanilli who got trapped in a lie.

Being from the generation that listened to Milli Vanilli's music, I think they need to be rehabilitated. Why, because right now, there are so many artists using machines to make music. There's music in which no REAL musical instrument has really been used. For me, it was a man's jealousy of his own oeuvre. It's like a father who's jealous of his own son's success. I think if this happened today, we'd laugh about it and move on.

This is a touching story of music history, and a mist see for any 80's kid.
