super boring little happens with a dull ending.

Great pre release publicity blurb about “ talking about it three days afterwards “ The Classic Hour of The Wolf by Ingemar Bergman is like that . However that was conceived by a genius . The Minus Man isn’t genius . It is what I call competent mediocre. The acting , directing, and story is good enough but film overall just doesn’t crossover that Classic or Cult Classic line . I get that leading characters need not be immediately scintillating and seductive but taking this into consideration I still maintain Minus Man is not Art . Film fans of this film might think I am being to lofty hard on it but the Creators of Minus Man do have those ambitions for their project and it falls short .

Bored out of my mind. Good talent assembled. But you just wait for it to get clever or interesting and it never does. Had a surreal feel to it, but just tedious.

A dreadful nothing film going nowhere! Could have been so much better if it just tried! Terrible.

Makes no sense and has no point. They try to make this guy sympathetic, but he, and the movie, are just plain pathetic.

A bafflingly under-appreciated film.

Some films can be appreciated for their craftsmanship and mood, in spite of their distasteful content. Remember "Psycho?" None of the characters were really likeable, and the story was certainly unpleasant. But we all agree that it's a great movie because Hitchcock made it so. Not that "The Minus Man" comes anywhere near Hitch's masterpiece, but it's admirable for a few of the same reasons. The storytelling is deadpan and straightforward, with no flashbacks, quick cuts, or flashy camera work. The actors, with one exception, are impressive. And the plot….Well, it's pretty weird. Vann (Owen Wilson), a young drifter, arrives in a small northern California town one night. His first stop is the local tavern, where the disagreeable bartender (John Carroll Lynch) is serving beers to a scraggly young lady named Laurie (Sheryl Crow). There is some disagreement about her ability to pay her tab, so Vann offers to cover it, and the next thing we know, the two are heading off in Vann's pickup truck. Laurie is a junkie, and after she pulls out a hypo and shoots up, Vann offers her a drink of Amaretto. It's apparently poisoned, because she's dead in a rest stop bathroom within minutes. Crow is a dreadful actress, obviously cast because of her star power, but thankfully we're rid of her early in the film. The rest of the cast members are impressive, especially Wilson. He's charming and seemingly naïve. Everybody in the pleasant, white picket fence little town likes him, especially middle aged Doug (Brian Cox) the man who rents Vann a room and helps him get a job sorting mail at the post office. Doug's wife Jane (Mercedes Ruehl) is initially reticent about Vann. Turns out that her first reaction to him was justified: The guy is a whack job who goes about the business of poisoning random citizens of the town. Next in line is the local high school football star. There's a healthy dose of black comedy, but the mood of dread never lets up. We know what the townspeople are in for, but they don't. Vann meets post office co-worker Ferrin (Janeane Garofalo) and strikes up a tentative relationship with her. Will she be the next victim? What about good old Doug, who kind of adopts Vann as the son he never had? Vann talks to the audience in voice overs throughout the film. He is blithe and indifferent, just describing his normal daily activities to us. It's a creepy effect. Even more weird are Vann's dreamlike sequences with two cops who suspect him (Dennis Haysbert and Dwight Yoakam). Cox's performance is phenomenal. He's got serious emotional and mental issues. His daughter is missing for reasons not explained, he's got a bad relationship with his wife, and he self-flagellates. I found myself wanting to see more of him. It's hard to evaluate this movie overall. It's well directed and acted, but it's oddball. And the ending will make you insane. So watch it accordingly.

Reasonably compelling. Enjoyed how random his journey seemed to be. Enjoyed Owen's portrayal of nice guy killer.

Owen Wilson, Sheryl Crow, Brian Cox, and Jeanine Garafalo a movie about someone no one would expect Wilson plays a serial killer who on the outside seems harmless enough but what is really going on inside his head? he specifically targets people who complain about their everyday lives after moving into a married couple's house he bides his time choosing the next several victims it's a soft little thriller digging into the psyche of a psychopath but with a calm demeanor he even hallucinates about two officers that have been chasing him since day 1 hoping that soon he will slip up who knows how long someone like this can avoid being caught while also acting ordinary? Wilson plays it so calm and collected but you can definitely tell there's something not quite right with his mannerisms even with murder involved nothing too special but solid performances and a relaxing mood make for a nice time-killer so to speak

The Minus Man feels like its in a constant dream state but still manages to hold your attention on the account of the gravity of what Owen Wilsons character is involved in. This movie seems to be always desperately trying to be something better that it is. In short this movie drags continuously attempting to pull off whitty dialog but always falling short. Throughout this movies almost 2 hour running time I was hoping in the end to pull out something redeemable but I am sorry to say it falls short.

Hampton Fancher's The Minus Man is a methodical, chilling excursion into the mind of a serial killer. Not much different from the better known Henry: Portrait of a serial killer, this movie is not a comfortable motion picture to sit through. The lack of overt violence and gore deepens the sense of unease. Watching Vann's tale unfold, we should be gripped by revulsion; instead, there's a strange fascination. Like Henry this movie takes us into an alien world and strands us there for a little while by way of showing things from the killer's point of view. This movie may not invite emotional participation, but it gives its audience much to ponder.

What a delightfully strange film, a nice send up on serial killers and perfect for someone looking for something different.

Dark, Deadly & Delicious.

I guess suspense dramas do not need a comforting ending.

I think it was genius and the ending has almost a nearly Twin Peak type of twist, and I wondered was the father guilty of the Missing Daughter, the recordings on the tape was not erased but the husband killed the wife to try to cover up for the 1 person he now looked up to, because he reminds him of himself? I'm just wondering does anyone else have those same thoughts. This movie was awesome because it was something the whole family could watch yet it was suspenseful and horror included because you never knew what he would do next , you didn't know where he was from or what actually happened in his life that made him suddenly snap, and why it was very hard for him to actually feel, there is room for a Minus Man part II

What did I just watch? So many actors I like in this movie but so very odd. I don't know what the point even is. Everyone is so awkward and though I do appreciate the power of silence in dialogue there are so many long odd silences. And the actors could exchange looks but more often each face is expressionless. More than that even the faces are completely devoid of expression and the pregnant pauses seem pointless and empty. I kept waiting for some insight or understanding.

Owen Wilson is very weird in this interesting and unusual film that, even though it is not very violent or exciting in the usual psycho genre type, is none-the-less creepy to the nth degree, so that you can't look away. It leaves you feeling very disturbed in a quiet sort of way.

A pretty interesting take on the serial killer genre but poorly executed. I forgot that there was a time in the 90's where Janeane Garofalo was the cute love interest.

Really solid film, with an interesting take on a serial killer who comes off as one of the nicest people you could know. He also has an interesting method as he never forces his poison on his victims, but they rather choose to partake of it as they believe it is simple armoretto. I also like the ending or non-ending as some may call it.
