Great movie but a cringe worthy level of social media references. We get it, the main character is young.

OH MYYYY.. AMAZINGGG!! Twists were nice it kept me watching as someone who gets bored easily. And the characters were easy to fall in love with. The feature of the Netflix show was nice but also not really need, it didn’t ruin the movie though!!

Very thrilling well-made movie. I enjoyed so much and I felt it's like 3 hours long because it packed with many twists. Almost perfect but just one thing... all the visual effect and tricks are only possible in this internet-age, so it might be look aged badly in some years in future.

Absolutely love this movie, love the way they made this movie. Definitely different way to shoot a movie. But I loved it so much! If you haven't seen this movie, please I would recommend watching this movie. 🔥😊

The people that didn’t like this, have something severely wrong with their executive functioning.

LOVE Storm Reid, LOVE Nia Long and I even like Ken Leung, but this movie. I didn't particularly love it and I didn't hate it. It was just meh! All that technology made me dizzy and realise that it's getting easier and easier to do the wrong thing as we are living in a Big Brother society which is scary. What happened to simple story telling? I won't be watching this again.

I wouldn't watch this again. All you see is a teenage girl being 'Tech savvy' and it has no real moral to it at all. I was disappointed as I thoroughly enjoy watching problem solving/crime scene films but this was terrible. Even my Dad was like ' what's this?

Jan 9, 2025

The main girl can't act, she's terrible, let's film down, it's also stupid in alot of scenes.. Like when she's on phone with Spanish guy and translating what he says

Loved this. As a 52 year old made me realise the young are actually safer than the elders!! There tech saviness can be amazing if they are good at it! I seriously need to learn, as had no idea so much was available! Very clever and you’ll never figure it out till she does. Brilliant actress and brilliant concept. Didn’t want it to finish but good ending too 👍❤️

Extremely thrilling and mind-ducking movie that plays with the viewer with 100% effectiveness.

"Missing" is a 2023 suspense thriller about June, played by Strom Reid, trying to find her mother who went missing during a romantic trip to Columbia. The movie is shot entirely through different found footage screen captures, stuff like facetime calls, google searches and security camera videos. It is a format that helps the audience feel more involved in the problem solving. June doesn't have police records or any detective experience. All she has is the same type of stuff that we would have. The movie uses these limitations in clever ways, and it is edited in such a way that it gives the movie a good quick pace. It is difficult to review this movie without comparing it to its predecessor "Searching". After all, the directors of this film, Johnson and Merrick, were both editors on "Searching". If you are familiar with that film, this review is pretty easy. If you liked that film, you'll like this one. It is more of the same. Consequently, this film does feel less novel by comparison. The protagonist in this film isn't quite as likable as the first film, and she does make some pretty dumb decisions by the end of the film. That being said, the mystery is a bit more compelling and the finale is a lot more exciting in this film compared to "Searching". The movie is a solid mystery, some good emotional beats and even some moments of good subtle humor woven in. Most of the compliments go to the editing, they make this film a tight 111 minutes, it just blows by. All that being said, there isn't much to this film. It is what it is. In this day and age there is no shortage of crime thriller shows that give us similar missing person mysteries. The novelty of the premise can only take you so far. The reveal is a clever one, that makes the film fun to re-watch. But when you step back and think about the setup, a lot of it doesn't hold up. If you unravel the scheme is does reveal itself to be pretty convoluted and overly complicated. And there are certain moments where you are just shouting at June not to be so stupid. But those are common tropes with the genre. I imagine the studios like films like this, it wouldn't take too long to shoot, not that many actors or sets. And it is easy to slip in a lot of product placement. If you like suspense mysteries, chances are you will like this one. But there is just something missing that holds it back from being great.

*Missing* is a solid thriller that hooks you with its unique visual style. The whole movie is told through screens, and it feels like you're piecing the mystery together yourself. It’s super engaging, and the storytelling through apps, cameras, and texts is so well done. The twists and turns kept me guessing (mostly), and the tension doesn’t let up, which is great for a movie like this. But, man, Storm Reid... I just don’t vibe with her acting. She’s so stoic and stuck on one expression the whole time—it’s hard to connect with her character. It makes the emotional moments fall flat. Also, the final reveal? Meh. It felt lazy and obvious, like they ran out of better ideas. Overall, it’s an entertaining watch and a cool concept, but it’s let down by weak acting and a disappointing conclusion. Still worth a watch for the suspense alone!

Searching was better, with a more experienced actor to carry it. The plot was still enough to carry me through and enjoy it.
