Mission: Impossible Reviews
... an engaging and exciting piece of action filmmaking, directed with devious style by De Palma, who knows how to stage a set piece

What should have been a finely honed spy thriller is on Cruise-control in more ways than one. Or maybe the impossible mission is expecting a coherent movie from director Brian “Setpieces ’R’ Us” De Palma anymore.

This works as a really great conservative prototype for future installments, complete with fun tech gadgetry and big action set pieces.

Brian De Palma's Mission: Impossible is clever sleight-of-hand filmmaking on a Hollywood scale, earning the label of pure cinema.

At times, it’s a touch too complicated for its own good (some of Ethan’s visualized hypotheses are arranged to be purposely confusing), but the notion that no one can be trusted is largely effective.

A subversive first film that went out of its way to break the blockbuster mold...

Although we all remember the series well, this flick is still worth checking out.

A crazy, knowingly over-the-top, but entertaining action movie (25TH ANNIVERSARY Blu-ray review).

The first installment in the popular film franchise set the tone for what would be a consistently exciting series (that dopey M:I II aside).

While Mission: Impossible isn't the best film in the franchise, it lays the foundation for everything that will come our way in the future.

Thanks, in part, to Cruise, the Mission: Impossible film franchise has grossed $3.5 billion to date with more to come...

A production designed to entertain and to do it in such a way that the viewer remains glued to the seat with De Palma's visual and narrative inventiveness. [Full Review in Spanish]

There are some standout action sequences, and that's what really makes it worth a look back.

If we're going by a comparison to James Bond, while I love me a good Bond film, Mission: Impossible is miles ahead of that entire franchise in its treatment of female characters.

It's all very ambitious and very creative and very wonderful to watch...the first Mission: Impossible remains the closest to perfect that any Mission: Impossible movie has ever been.

De Palma's film has some stunning sequences... But the movie so betrayed the spirit of the original 온라인카지노추천 series, by betraying the spirit and integrity of a formerly unimpeachable character, that the entire project smelled of cynicism.

The "set" pieces of this film come off like clockwork, but there's no connective tissue -- no story line, no solid characterization, etc. In the end, De Palma's work seems full of sound and visual fury without signifying much of anything.

The film tries to push against its genre, and the auteurist flourishes are unmistakable.

Still holds up as a fun, unique entry in the action spy genre and launched Tom Cruise's second career arc as an action megastar.

What used to be an IMF team effort turned into another star vehicle for Tom Cruise.
