The Mist Reviews

Apr 11, 2025

Very creepy, leaving a bitter aftertaste, The Mist is an absolute masterpiece of horror genre (best horror movie of 2000). Thomas Jane is amazing in this movie. The final rips the heart to pieces.

Esperaba mucho más del final, simplemente es ???

Frank Darabont is a King Whisperer deluxe. No one has matched the success of making a King story into a hit movie the way Darabont has. Darabont did both "The Shawshank Redemption" and "The Green Mile." You can make an argument that those are two of the best King conversions ever made. While it isn't in the same class as the King/Darabont collaboration on the two great prison stories, The Mist is no slouch, either.

Love the short story. They def brought it to life with this movie. You don't see the ending coming. Will leave you unsettled for days.

The cast is really good and delivers a stunning performance. The plot though gets really tedious and it feels like it's dragging on way to long towards the end. The ending while being depressing and very impactful kinda feels like Stephen King pulled it out of his ass just for the sake of being depressing. It feels nonsensical that the mist suddenly disappears just because the army arrives. It's a good watch if you've got nothing else to watch but I wouldn't recommend going out of your way just to watch it.

Would have been 3stars if it wasn’t for how crazy awesome the ending was. Excellent movie!

One of Stephen King’s best movie adaptations. This movie has lots of suspense and is a great survival horror movie. The story is also very dark and very messed up as the ending of the movie is one of the most heart wrenching and depressing endings ever. This movie is great to watch and shows how brilliant Stephen King is with his storytelling.

A Cult Classic. The cinematography isn't bad but it defintely is on the low budget side. It has a borderline SyFy Channel cheapness look to the whole thing. The direction is alright enough but man you'd never know this is the same dude who did Shawshank and Green Mile. It's kind of crazy to think about. The CGI is also terrible...just flat out terrible and takes you out of the expierence 100% everytime you see it. That being said, the location is memorable, the mist is cool, and the ending....easily the best part. The music isn't bad either but it can be a bit generic, not used that much, and I wish it was a bit more catchy. Everything else though overall is good. There is A LOT of characters in this but it does a good job keeping for the most part together in one location and not getting too jumpy with individual stories. It's crazy how despite the CGI being terrible the acting in general is good and saves lots of scenes honestly. Some actors are better than others. The religious woman just becomes annoying and gets way too much screentime. Some acting can be B Movie hoaky also and the dialouge isn't anything special. But some characters are more likeable than others too but overall there is some good chemistry between them and the majority do stick out to varying degrees. During death scenes or attacks it can be a bit to over the top though. It does follow a logical flow of events that do make sense. Sometimes it lingers too long on certain subplots, the religious undertone can get too much focus at times and be way too on the nose, but it makes perfect sense. And the actions they do take in general follow a logical sense despite some dumb moves like trying to get the gun at the end off the car in the most forced awkward way possible. This alternates between being consistently good, taking you out of the expierence with bad CGI, being intrigued, being bored and yet it holds up together well enough. But what really makes up for the rocky road is the ending....Yeah it's worth it. It's a really good twist that man if the rest of the film was as good this would easily be one of the best horror flicks of the 21st century. Dare I say this deserves a big budget remake. Anyone who is a big fan of any actors in this, 00's horror, or curious fans of the director should check this out.

A little gem. Acting is superb and the script is B movie esque, however it's directed and finished brilliantly.

One of the greatest endings in cinematic history.

Worst movie I have ever watched. Not getting the ending, when army arrived the mist magically dissapeares. Not explaining anything. Not recommendig it

Love it. The ending will blow your mind. Thinking about it, apart from the religious nutcase I can't think of any negatives

A very well written piece of cinema that presents the fact that the things lurking within the Mist were not the only monsters in this film…

Wonderfully adapted yet somehow improved. There’s a dated campiness that’s great fun but soaked in unknown fear. The monsters’ design is amazing with a score that carries a cinematic tone. Vastly bleak & hopeless in its emotional climax.

When I first started watching this, I thought it would be a cheap, throwaway, but fun horror movie. However, I was pleasantly surprised by this film. It explored a lot of interesting ideas, and it takes a relatively simply plot and turns it into an engaging story that got me hooked quickly. The characters and acting is pretty good, but the best part has to be the ending. It genuinely shocked me how this movie ends, and I think it’s genius. The cgi is definitely dated, but I had a fun time with this movie.

One of the better horror/monster films. Paced very well, not scary but psychologically good and CGI was decent. Acting not bad either. Enjoyed this one. Watched on Amazon Prime.

Interesting background story with a very cheap ending.

Rubbish. It puts religion and the military as the bad guys. The mc's should have just waited inside with plenty of food instead of b#tching around. Everyone was so against the religious lady and God like what? Sure, she was kind of crazy, but she was right about some stuff and they just ignore it. Norm dead was just ridiculous! They should've closed the door as soon as they saw the tentacle. And the father was almost cheating his wife with a random woman! TL;DR: Starts good, but after the first 20-30 minutes it just amazes you of how trashy it getz.

The characters were annoying, illogical, and stereotypical. They were all neurotic from the get go. The protagonist casually starts falling in love with another woman while being married. The minute they run out of gas he shoots everyone in the car, including his beloved son. Excruciatingly dumb!
