Mob Land Reviews
Enjoying it so far but accents are terrific and some meaningless sub plots Tom hardy masterful performance
Wow what an Awesome show and Great Acting! Cannot wait to see Episode 2!
The start of another great, Tom Hardy brill, more of the same
I went in to this with low expectations. One of the reasons was one of the leading characters was played by Shiloh Fernandez. I do not recall seeing him in anything before but I was pleasantly surprised by his performance. John Travolta is typically solid and this was no exception. And I thought this was one of Stephen Dorff's best performances. Solid acting. Good story. Enough action to keep me interested. Definitely worth watching.
This is Southern Noir for the 21st century. The cast is excellent and each clearly understands that director Nicholas Maggio is departing from the predictable step by step Studio roller-coaster ride. He and and co-writer Healy are telling a story. This movie engages the thinking parts of the brain, as well as rewarding the senses with beautiful cinematography and a perfectly fit repertoire of new blues country music. An intelligent, insightful, movie where John Travolta does quietly well and Stephen Dorff powerfully carries this masterpiece.
Waste of time. Like all Saban movies, it's all about gangsters.
Spoiler alert! Movie was poorly made in many ways. 1. During the pill mill robbery, what sense did it make for Shelby and Trey to park dozens of feet from the building entrance. The lot was empty. They could have driven right up to the door for a more discreet entry and faster get away. 2. During their escape in the parking lot, - Why did Shelby yell, "The gate is locked!"? What gate?? They were in an open parking lot! and - Why did Shelby recklessly drive TOWARD the men chasing them from another vehicle? They literally crossed paths so that each driver passed each other - practically shoulder to shoulder, facing opposite directions - where Shelby could have easily been taken out with one close range shot. 3. What the hell sense did it make for Chief Bodie to approach the truck after it stalled? He had no cover or back up! He was wide open, repeatedly yelling for the occupants to give up. PLEASE! There were two armed men in that truck who had been wildly chasing and repeatedly shooting at Shelby and Trey. Realistically, that scene was nonsensical and Bodie was stupid. 4. Who shot the truck's occupants?? Those scenes were totally absent!! 5. How the hell did the truck catch on fire?? And this happens after Bodie approached, assessed the situation and called it in to dispatch. Next thing we know, everything's up in flames. 5. Why did Clayton, the assassin, attack a stranger and lock him in the stranger's own car trunk? What the hell was that all about?? Was he angry about the way in which he'd been talked to during the conversation he'd just had with the top mafia guy? 6. Why was a gigantic wad of money, not bagged or discreetly concealed, openly given to Clayton after he killed Shelby? For dramatic effect? So stupid and simplistic! 7. Was Clayton suicidal, too? I mean really, how else can you explain him taking out the mafia guy and his cohorts, knowing full well there would be retaliation. assassin? After he killed shelby, who does that
Good actor’s but a poorly made mad movie. I was so bored I found myself walking in and out of the room and fast forwarding thru a lot of the movie. Wouldn’t recommend it to anyone unless your looking to put yourself too sleep
SPOILERS: First off let me just say that this movie was really good John Travolta, Shiloh Fernandez and Stephen Dorff are excellent in this movie and so is the rest of the cast. This movie goes to show no matter who you steal from they could be the wrong kind of people even if you don't think they are and thats where the characters Shelby and Trey learn even though the place they stole from did not look like a threating place or the people in it, it was. I really did feel sorry for Shelby in away cause he was coned into it but he still made that choice sad he died but the one i really felt sorry for was miss Whitney. I do think at the end when Clayton Stephen Dorff's character felt some remorse for killing Shelby you could see it in his face a little and thats why I think he killed the mob boss and his goons i did like the fact that he did leave the money for Shelby's family but when he got shot i guess he got what was coming to him. I thought John Travolta did great as sheriff Bodie he's that guy you want to be friends with but you won't mess with him. This movie really goes to show that your actions have consiquences. I think if they did not kill off Shelby he would of turned himself in cause you could tell he felt remorse and shame of what he did. This is a very good movie. The acting, directing, story and music is awesome. If you have not seen this movie then I recommend you do
Despite the obvious plot holes and god-awful title, I thought there were some nice shots, dialogue, and acting. It was really close to being a good movie . I hope first time writer/director Nicholas Maggio gets a second time.
So damn boring. I switched off halfway through. The characters are boring, the plot stinks of boredom and you want to try and revive the film but it died of boredom.
Not very Hollywood, maybe that's why I liked it so much.
Slow paced but intriguing with a fine cast doing good work
Travolta at his best! Brilliant film
Just ok. Decided to watch because of Travolta. I kept watching to see how it ended. I think it could be better. Won't watch again and won't recommend.
If you like shows like "ozark", "narcos", or "breaking bad" then you will enjoy this movie.
This is definitely not a bad movie. It is just dark... very dark. Not a single good thing happens in the entire film, so it's pretty damn depressing. One thing the movie did extremely well was convey atmosphere. You really felt like you were there in that depressing and dark world. This is not a world I enjoy visiting, so even though they did it really well, it's not enjoyable. The real star of this film is Stephen Dorff. He steals every scene he is in. He looks ragged as heck and really delivered one of his best performances. I honestly cannot believe I have been watching this guy in movies since I was a child, and he was a child in The Gate. Travolta was fine for what it required of him in the film. The rest of the cast was solid.
Don't pay attention to critics on this one. It may be a little slow but the last 20 minutes and sincerity of the cast makes this one hell of a ride along on a heist gone wrong. It's gritty, dark, and a must see in my book.
Absolute trash another gem of pure uninspired b rated movie making not film by any means
Not a cliche at all! Unexpected, good soundtrack and cinematography, acting and story. Highly recommend. Better than expected and better than most of the reviews. Interesting take on measure of a man.
