Mojave Reviews
Yes the word brother was overused but not sure why this has such a low score. Aside from how Oscar's character got some of the addresses, I liked this. Good reasoning and ending. Good acting and tone. Nice touch that Mark Wahlberg is in it too. Kept me interested the in all but about the first 15 min. Give it a bit to get started. I'd give it 4 out of 5 stars!
Why are half the reviews about something called "Everlasting", this movie is Mojave.... Should've named it "Listen here, Brother" and I would've liked it alot more, literally every piece of dialogue in this movie ends with "Brother". I should also mention that outside of hearing the word Brother 1000 times you won't enjoy the movie because it sucks.
I was thinking Mojave was a better than average movie. A bit short but quite entertaining and kept me on my toes. Now in this day and age is it safe to go to the desert by yourself no. I'm not worried about aliens or paranormal things. You got some sick individuals that know how to survive out in the desert and other terrain that will keep you from going home. The conversations were good going back and forth at one another to see who's ego is going to be there amigo, quite frankly alot of what the drifter was saying about the Bible is true. Oscar Isaac's character was two obsessed at getting back at Tom aka Garrett. It's the little things that get you caught and outsmarted got to keep you wits up. Motiveless malignity that's a good one 100% my ex-wife. Get your rocks off at hurting people and feeling good about it just a pure evil person. So I had to use necessary evil to get a lot of goodness done. I'll have to take a look and see what other people thought about the movie.
It was too existential - a man is facing his own demons in the desert. He stumbles upon someone dealing with life and death as well. But it's really just misses the marker.
For me, I liked the darkness of the story. This movie has no real protraganist Maybe a lot of people don't like that
I loved this so much! Reminded me of Cormac McCarthy for some reason. Absolutely cannot believe why the reviews are so yuck.
i like indie-type low budget movies (short run time was a clue) so Mojave was okay for me. the first few minutes i thought it was going to be a stinker, then familiar faces and some star power helped for me. i watch lots of flicks, but wasn't familiar with Garrett Hedlund (okay, i'm busted for having a small world). the farther in i got, the more i liked the "corny" dialog. i found much more to like than dislike here.
A drifter and a rich guy battle in the game of life and death in a entertaining drama.
Mojave is a disappointing film. It is about a suicidal artist goes into the desert where he finds his doppelgänger. Oscar Isaacs and Garrett Hedlund give terrible performances. The screenplay is badly written. William Monahan did a horrible job directing this movie. I didn't like this motion picture.
I started watching, and nothing happens. Literally. Nothing makes sense. I gave up after 20 minutes , restarted 4(!) times. No logic, no plot, just plain nonsense. Beware of the reviews of the people giving 5 stars, they are probably relatives, or very "artsy" people who have no life but watching this long piece of cr*p.
Excellent production with strong themes subtly woven into the narrative. An outstanding independent film that manages to strike the delicate balance of grit, while still being a very polished.
Like any big blockbusters, independent cinema has hits and misses. Blockbusters either make billions or are forgotten about, while indies either make their way around festivals and gain traction, or simply are left in the dust. Everlasting, a small picture that has been winning some pretty big awards under the radar is a film that's now available to rent or own on many streaming services. If you are looking to view a film that you probably haven't heard about and be pleasantly surprised, then I believe Everlasting is the perfect film for you. Using some very hefty techniques in storytelling, this film takes a few risks that I wasn't expecting, thus sparking a liking which will surely be one of my favourite indies in a while. Here are my thoughts on Everlasting. After travelling on her own to Los Angeles and being murdered, a young filmmaker decides to document his journey with the hopes of finding his girlfriend's killer. Sort of told in a non-linear fashion through flashbacks of happier times and "real" footage caught on tape of this murderer's victims, there is a very horrific feeling that you may get when watching this film. Everlasting has a very unique way of telling its story and with performances that feel very raw and authentic to reality, this is a film that should have made it out to the public in the way that Paranormal Activity did. Although fictional, there is a very large and overbearing sense of realism present throughout this film, which is easily its biggest selling point. Although the depressing aspect is thrown out the window when you know she has been murdered early on in the film, it becomes more about the interesting investigation and enjoying the fond memories that they shared together in the recent past. Everlasting is all about the build up to whether or not Matt will end up finding the justice he has been seeking. Through many flashbacks and past encounters, certain elements are brought to fruition and become twists within themselves. This film is very well-structured, never giving away its reveals, but always quietly hinting at them along the way. If you are a fan of the mystery genre, that is the genre I would most associate this picture with. What I was personally able to take away from this story was the fact that so many people die every day and all we have to go on is an image of them. If we don't know them, we make quick judgements on what they may have been like and nothing more. This film takes the time to explore the past of it's fallen subject in order to make viewers truthfully care about its subject. So many blockbusters have disposable characters and hardly ever take the time to full flesh them out, but when you make your entire film based around that, there really isn't much to dislike about it. From beginning to end I found myself enthralled in this premise and there was hardly ever a dull moment in its mere 82 minute run time. In the end, Everlasting is a great viewing experience for those who love great mysteries, a solid thriller, or a film filled with dedicated performances. This is an independent piece of cinema that really cares about its characters and depicting them in a very niche way. I was engaged from start to finish, with highlights being performances by the every devoted Valentina de Angelis and dedicated Adam David. Although this film won't appeal to everyone, due to the fact that this style is out of the ordinary, true cinema lovers will get a nice dose of terrific storytelling. Everlasting is a film that I have to recommend with the risk of it being off-putting to some, but for what this film sets out to accomplish, it's near perfect. Looking for a great film? I don't believe you will regret checking this one out.
This is a unique exploration of taboos and violence told through the eyes, and camera, of Matt a brooding teenager whose girlfriend, Jessie, went missing and was discovered dead after entering an underworld of drugs, fetish modeling and increasingly dark appetites. The performances weren't over the top or melodramatic, the story unfolded in unexpected ways taking the viewer on a chilling ride. It was interesting to see Jessie's character take shape largely in the past tense, through flashbacks and the video footage taken by Matt the blend of mediums with the video camera included as a plot element was not hokey at all but rather helped the story take shape in a pseudo documentary style. I would expect to see more of Adam Perez (Matt) and Valentina de Angelis, two young actors who seem poised for big roles in the future. All in all a very unique and riveting indie film. Well worth the watch!
Reminiscent of both "American Beauty" and "13 Reasons Why" at times, "Everlasting" offers an authentic and intimate look into the lives of two high school students who are each affected by the arrival of a brutal serial killer in very different ways. Unsettling and poignant at the same time, Anthony Stabley creates a unique style through the use of handy-cam footage, archival footage, flashbacks and snippets of the action in the present. These differing techniques ultimately blend together quite well thanks to a consistent tone and overall, provide an honest and heartbreaking look at the devastation murder wrecks on individuals.
Everlasting is a thriller about a high school student named Matt whose girlfriend is murdered while she is away in L.A. to start her modeling career. Matt decides to use his filmmaking skills he's learning at school to help piece together what happened to his girlfriend and document his journey to L.A. to try to find the killer. Everlasting has a VERY good cast, particularly for an indie film. The film is very well acted and you'll recognize a lot of faces in Everlasting. The two young leads are very good and carry the film, while others like Michael Massee, Robert LaSardo, Bai Ling, and Pat Healy are excellent in supporting roles. The film manages to effectively balance a sweetness and sadness in the young couple's relationship, while also dealing with some dark subject matter in the girl's death. I also appreciated the surprising twists and turns at the end of the film. I actually involuntarily yelled "Oh my God" at the tv while watching the ending of the film haha. I'd highly recommend Everlasting to everyone!
Evoking a similarly gothic and nightmarish aesthetic to films like 8mm or Lynch's Lost Highway, Everlasting examines jealousy and love in the often cruel underbelly of the modeling world. The leads all deliver captivating performances, but Valentina de Angelis is particularly magnetic as the elusive Jessie. Overall the film felt like a dream that wanders somewhat chaotically around Matt's mission to find Jessie's killer. This is not at the film's peril, however. The serpentine storytelling gives it an almost 90's-era Oliver Stone-like quality, where multiple perspectives elevate the emotional dimensions in each given moment. The soundtrack only enhances the ethereal qualities that are already present throughout. I look forward to seeing what this filmmaker does next!
Everlasting is an honest movie. It reveals a way of life of the character Jesse and it throws reality in the audiences face of how easily influenced a person can get by the lure of a promising career. There are ugly truths of a broken judicial system that allows monstrosity to occur and it is in Matt's retelling of his life with his girlfriend there is a hope that someone watching this movie might prevent a future tragic ending from occuring.
