Moms' Night Out Reviews

Worse than a Hallmark movie. Stupid plot, horrible acting and cheesy as it goes.

I couldn’t make it through the first 20 minutes. It actually started off pretty well in the first 5 minutes, but the ‘comedy’ quickly took a turn for the worse. Yikes.

i like that it's a movie a family can watch-funny without using the f word every 10 seconds or being sexual in a gross way

Way underrated hilarious, hip, thrilling, touching, and family-friendly; and not just for a Christian based movie! Most critics' complaints are how unrealistic the plot situation are (?!) but hellooo it's a movie and that's kinda the points as even most of the classics have unrealistic things happen, haha. My only complaint as with most faith centered productions is every character seems annoyingly well-off, therefore not relatable to the average viewer; but great movie and not just for a Christian movie!

I've watched the movie at least 3 times and laugh and cry every time. Moms' Night Out proves they can still make good movies if they want to.

Sarah drew's voice is so so irritating and why does she over acts so much. Looked so scripted cause of her.

Such a great movie! Can't believe I've not watched it before. Clean, fun and inspiring.

Never has a film so perfectly captured the evangelical family, without mocking them. While it may have a niche audience, this film knows exactly who that audience is. It's hilarious, heartfelt, wholesome, and a delight to watch over and over.

This movie is not memorable, it is a ‘pass the time' film that is a one-and-done watch you don't feel the need to rewatch.

My wife & I were hoping for something on the order of "Fun Mom Dinner," but instead we got Pastor Erwin's borderline misogynistic sermon about how good it is for Christian moms to be white, rich, and stay out of the paid labor force to raise godly children.

I’ve said before that, as a Christian, I tend to hate faith-based movies as much as non-Christians (maybe even more.) If they were even of mediocre quality then I’d give them a chance, but invariably they are disastrously bad. As a result, they make me feel embarrassed for the kind of crap that is spewed out as “entertainment” from the people that share beliefs similar to my own. I didn’t know when I started watching Moms’ Night Out that it was one of “those” movies, until about 15 minutes in and the characters were at some church function. That’s when I understood why nothing up to that point had been even remotely funny. They tricked me by casting a couple of familiar actors, and made me think I was going to watch a real movie. Instead, like most of these Christian movies, it sees a genre of film and tries desperately to emulate it without understanding why those movies work. In this case, they were trying to make one of those comedy films (like The Hangover,) about a group of friends who go out on the town and everything goes wrong for them. The one thing they forgot (or didn’t know how to do) was to write some jokes. There are awkward situations, but awkward doesn’t instantly equate to funny. They also have horribly dated or out-of-touch attempts at humor. For instance, the pastor’s wife has a tattoo! Oh my, let me clutch my pearls! I hated the general sound of Moms’ Night Out. It felt like there was constant noise screaming almost every minute. Part of that is because the philosophy of this movie was to crank up the chaos, because that’s what they think makes these situations humorous. The characters were also a big problem in the film. Typically, in this kind of comedy you fill the cast with some broad stereotypes so that you create laughs from the way each one reacts to the situations. For instance, one person may be a straight-laced prude, another is a slut, then there’s the idiot, etc. However, in this film they all are just the same milquetoast soccer moms. While it might be a good thing in real life for Christian women to be paragons of virtue, it makes for really boring stuff in a movie. The biggest laugh I got out of the film was when they tried to shoe-horn in the “Jesus talk” that gets Moms’ Night Out to qualify so it can be shown in bible study groups for years to come. It’s a lame message, and clearly intended just to speak to people that are already believers. That’s probably the most frustrating thing about Moms’ Night Out and all these faith-based films: They aren’t suitable as outreach or evangelism, in fact they would actively turn non-believers away from Christianity. Instead, they are just a shameless cash-grab used to prey on Christians who are looking for clean movies they can watch without feeling guilty.

Quite funny! A good laugh on a Friday night. Over the top at points, sure - but so relatable in many ways. Great work!

I loved Mom's Night Out. It is a family friendly, faith based movie with lots of laughs and a heartfelt message.

Great family movie with lots of laughs and a great message. It's really clean so naturally critics hate it. You'll love it. Not a lot of movies like this anymore.

It's just forgettable.

Misleading premise with divided parental focus that chopped down amusing expectations, but it is still fun from the charismatically sweet buildup's humorous authenticity under possible exaggeration for comedically filmic purposes, thus validating a worthwhile night out as a B-movie. (B)

I thought it was great to have a mom movie finally target the group of moms that are stay at home and are different from the working moms. I thought it was hilarious but still not too dirty at the same time.
