Moneyball Reviews
Moneyball isn’t your typical sports movie. it’s a smart, sharp drama about baseball, data, and defying tradition. Brad Pitt stars as Billy Beane, the Oakland A’s GM who teams up with a young stats whiz (Jonah Hill) to build a competitive team on a budget using analytics instead of old-school scouting. With a strong script by Aaron Sorkin and Steven Zaillian, solid direction by Bennett Miller, and standout performances, Moneyball turns number crunching into compelling drama. It’s a story about challenging the system, taking risks, and redefining success on and off the field. Rating: 9/10 – A must-watch, even if you’re not into baseball.
As a stats nerd and a baseball fan, (especially during the era of the film) I really enjoyed this movie.
80/100 - good sports movie. worth watching even if youre not into sports as the acting, dialogue, cinematography and plot were done well.
Moneyball convinces with a gripping true story and a clever narrative about the statistical revolution in baseball. Brad Pitt's performance as Billy Beane is strong, but Jonah Hill in particular steals the show with his calm but impressive performance as Peter Brand. The mixture of drama and sport works well, even if the movie seems a little too long in places and some scenes turn out too cheesy. Overall, Moneyball remains an entertaining and inspiring movie that is very well told despite its minor weaknesses.
Brilliant, inspirational film. A testament to the romanticism and amazingness of baseball. A great depiction of the Oakland Athletics miracle season. Fantastic acting. The best sports movie I have ever seen.
Excellent movie. I always enjoy a true story that is well written, acted and exceeds one’s expectations.
Great movie...will watch multiple times. Pitt was phenomenal, loved the writing...overall big thumbs up 👍
It’s really well done for what I initially thought was a pretty boring premise. It does a great job of putting the focus on the actors rather than the sport, in the best kind of way.
All Time Classic. Acting is excellent. Everyone gives really good performances but Brad Pitt is excellent and just sends it over the top with a interesting character to boot. The music also is excellent as well in a really unique way. It's not super pumped up stuff like Rocky or Hoosiers but very subtle and memorable. Especially the daughters song which really resoantes. The pacing is excellent too. Everything else is really well done with solid direction to boot. Whoo would ever think the executive suite for MLB would be a memorable setting for a sports drama. What sets it apart is it's the same underdog story at it's core we've seen a thousand times but there is hardly any traditional sports in it. It's about the underdog story of what goes on behind the scenes. Yes theres players and their stories along with scenes of them struggling and winning. But it's only like probably 10-15% of the film. It's all about changing the way you think and hw someone changed the game not with what they did on the field. A winner isn't always holding a trophy and sometimes it's difficult to see that even yourself. It's a very original and unique take on the template I haven't seen before. What also adds to this is the layers of depth to Hill & Pitt's characters. At first their very cold and calculated but we see them evolve into people who embrace their human sides along with the main Moneyball stats story arc and it adds such a human connection to a very niche subject. Despite being so niche, anyone can understand this and relate to the characters. A true testament to how well made this is. Everyone should give this a try once.
It has charm and heart.
my favorite movie ever
A well-written engaging screenplay. It's well acted, the characters seem very real, and the conduct between those characters is interesting. It's well shot, frames look professional. The movie's more about the things that happen behind the sport rather than the sport, so you don't really have to know much about baseball for this to interest you. It's better to keep in mind that it's not of the kind to be hyped up for but a standard good-watch that will leave you impressed for sure with a brief satisfaction once you've finished watching it.
Boring plot and boring pace. I mean I get that it's a biographical film and it's based on real events but...who cares about statistical analysis? The acting is okay I guess, nothing special.
I don't understand how anyone doesn't like this. I've watched it 100+ times, it's my top 3 movies of all time. So many amazing scenes and subtle acting mastery. I love this movie.
In spite of being a tad too long and not showing enough nuance at some of the things depicted, Moneyball is a well acted and solidly directed sports movie that utilizes its true story origins to craft a movie that manages to stay mostly interesting throughout while also having both depth and personality, in large part thanks to the superb writing by Steven Zaillian and Aaron Sorkin.
Best baseball movie ever. I live my life every day trying it be like Brad Pitt in this mf movie.
With it's intriguing plot and theme, Moneyball is a clever story about a baseball team dealing with a financial crisis. The storytelling can be a bit slow at times, but the characters' problem solving skills are unique and very risky. It's definitely a high stakes film that is engaging and promotes out-of-the-box thinking.
I think this film is quite unique in terms of rethinking the way the establishment view the sport of baseball. It reveals a team thought to be a bunch of losers that end up setting a record of consecutive wins that exceeded one of the greatest teams in the history baseball. It also completely re-examines how ball players are selected to play professional sport concentrating on potential future ability to perform as opposed to actual present performance which inevitably leads to excellence in that respect. Great performances by Brad Pitt and The supporting cast make this one of the greatest sport films produced. A must see for all you fans out there.
its worth watching and inspiring :)
