Mother Schmuckers Reviews
Where tonally-similar films succeed in subtle comedic presentation, Mother Schmuckers stares its viewers in the face as it drops over-the-top and obscene jokes, waiting for the laughs that will never come.

Nobody’s idea of essential, it’s edited with ruthless precision, better-crafted than most of the Sundance films I’ve seen so far and, for all its presumptive shock factor, has good energy...

The new Belgian comedy Mother Schmuckers wants to be a trashterpiece like Pink Flamingoes. It likely wont be since its not really rebelling against anything.

Co-writer/co-director duo Harpo and Lenny Guits apparent disregard for their viewers comfort can sometimes be quite funny, depending on your tolerance for messy, meandering absurdist comedy.

I would say words fail me, but they don’t. It’s just that most of them are unprintable.

Mother Shcmuckers clearly isnt meant to be a movie that will appeal to most audiences, but those nostalgic for early 2000s comedies may find something they like.

The comedy within the film often goes for the lowest possible jokes with the feature largely lacking in content that would provide actual enjoyment or laughs.

Making audiences feel disgust is one of my favorite things a film can dobut it shouldnt be the only thing.
| Original Score: C | Feb 8, 2022
A chaotically silly piece of insanity that had me laughing myself stupid for 70 minutes straight.

I hope for their sake that this movie lets the Guit brothers get all of the immaturity out of their system and that their next movie is something that doesn't rely on shocking the audience every five minutes.
| Original Score: 1 | Aug 21, 2021
The Guits' provocation is about as amiable as something so abjectly appalling can be, though it's perhaps a few jaw-dropping shocks (or a few uproarious belly-laughs) short of the cult status it seeks.

Offended yet? More like bored.

There's just nothing that could save "Mother Schmuckers" once it decides that shock value and offensiveness should take precedence over genuine laughs.

It's uproariously funny, but no matter how permissive you think you are, you will see things that you think went too far.
| Original Score: 4/5 | Feb 5, 2021
But this type of looney tunes humor is better served in shorter format than as a feature film, so if you're resistant to its strangeness, it's a bit of a tedious viewing experience.

A couple things are funny, but most of Mother Schmuckers feels like shock value for its own sake. Even at just 70 minutes, it wears thin.
| Original Score: 2/4 | Feb 4, 2021
The Guits masterfully keep upping the black comedy ante, fearless in their goal to offend everyone in this hilarious instant cult classic.

Mother Schmuckers is a psychotic cartoon come to life. There are things in this movie you cannot unsee but the flip side of that coin is that there are things in this movie that you cannot see anywhere else.
| Original Score: 8/10 | Feb 3, 2021
While at times bordering on avant-garde performance art Mother Schmuckers straddles the line of comedic genius and complete insanity as it entertains an audience raised on memes.
| Feb 2, 2021
The general problems with the comedy generally seem to stem from a general aimlessness; much of the film was unscripted but the actors' improv skills are nowhere near the level of a Sacha Baron-Cohen.
