Mothers' Instinct Reviews
Acting is great but the story takes too long to get to the climax.
Surprised to see the relatively low ratings for the movie. As much as I didn't like the story, the chemistry between the actors and actresses was executed well. Anne Hathaway was impressive in this character that just had nothing but unconditional love for her only son. The transition from her being good to bad was not something I liked to see, but objectively presented it understandably. Jessica Chastain was able to receive the act from Hathaway and possessed no less understanding of the loss of family. Setting was simple, yet nostalgic with the old cars and the decorations of the houses. The makeup and visual effects was clear, and portrays woman homemakers accurately.
Pretty good, made you wonder if what you think is going on is actually going on. I liked the concept of the movie even though it's deranged.
I felt this to be a really good thriller.the story i felt to be cold & calculating at times. Jessica Chastain & Anne Hathaway were very good.
Loss and suspicion are the themes in this old-school-type film. Jessica Chastain and Anne Hathaway have the chemistry necessary to keep your interests in a film with a measured approach.
It had suspense and was good as far as a thriller goes, but I didn’t really get the story. The character motivation for decisions didn’t make sense to me. And, like, what was the point of the movie?
I don’t care for many 2024-2025 movies but my boyfriend and I thoroughly enjoyed watching this. It has been a while since I’ve seen movies I’ve enjoyed, so this was very nice to watch.
Another domesticated remake lost in translation, becoming more exposed across the inherent flaws from grasping its psychological aim diving onto a classic Hitchcock thriller irrationally thwarted by the thinly written unpleasantness turning towards utter unsatisfactory, albeit impressive displayed though hectic convictions from the leading actresses. Excellent performance by all main characters. The cinematography was spot on for time period and a delight. The story line was engrossing and unpredictable for me. Loved every minute of it. Highly recommend. Would watch again.
A WASPy 1960's suburban melodrama that gets inexorably sillier by the minute, until finally reaching a climax and denouement that will leave you angry and exasperated at the sheer absurdity of it all. It almost seems satirical, but unfortunately, it's serious.
Good Movie keeps you on your toes. Which one is Evil or just Insane.
The people in Hollywood that make these movies are so disconnected from reality that they make these garbage movies. No parent on earth with half a brain would sit down and watch this absolute atrocity. It's wrong on so many levels. The best wrong again. These types of stories should never be put on a movie screen.
The acting was stellar and the characters were entertaining. All for it to lead up to a disappointing ending that didn't really make sense.
Here’s it goes: 1. Really wanted to love it 2. Shot extraordinary well, great production design, editing and acting 3. I guessed the ending in the first 20 minutes 4. I hated the ending and would not revisit this film
Really enjoyed seeing this period piece.
Excellent performance by all main characters. The cinematography was spot on for time period and a delight. The story line was engrossing and unpredictable for me. Loved every minute of it. Highly recommend. Would watch again.
Very solid performances, not only the lead ladies but also their husbands in the movie… also amazing art direction and cinematography . I liked the story, and im glad it had an unexpected ending. I was surprised by the low rates, but Americans dont deal well with this type of endings.
I’ve noticed that movies with French directors don’t always resonate with American audiences especially because American audiences are accustomed to outcomes that leave butterflies in your belly. International films don’t always give the happily ever after vibes. (see Emilia Pérez) and I think that adds a negative impact to audiences in the West, I think that’s part of the reason here why Mothers Instinct isn’t favorable. I see a lot of script reasons, but the story doesn’t necessarily go where you want it go. But life is like that. Sometimes bad things happen. Man… do bad things happen here. This is definitely a thriller. The most terrible thing ever that can happen, happens. Yet, things still get worse as this destructive snowball keeps growing downhill. I have no issues with the script, I do feel like the movie is a tad short and sometimes the pacing is inconsistent in the 2nd act. Still, the performances are so raw. Anne Hathaway and Josh Charles as the grieving parents deliver some of the most convincing performances ever. It’s cringy in the way that drives the story and it’s all completely understandable. Kudos to Jessica Chastain as well. The terror you live through because of the high stakes she’s going through is terribly entertaining. Mothers Instinct is void of praise because of the overall story and hard to watch delivery of story. A miss for most, but the movie wanted you to feel disgusted, and for that, I hand out flowers.
There wasn't a huge amount of story ,I thought the acting was very bad .
Excruciatingly slow motion. An hour into the movie you realize nothing has happened and that entire hour could have been condensed into 15 minutes. You then struggle through the last 30 minutes, hoping it will end With an explosive tragic conclusion, but it simply dies with a thud. I will never get those 90 minutes of my life back.
