Mr. Brooks Reviews
Feels like it was written for Nicolas Cage but we got stuck with dry as dirt Kevin Costner. He is the failure, not the plot. Hate Mr Smith as well. Lame.
Acting was superb. As for the twist and turns being complained about, I suppose that they are as out there as a pizza delivery guy agreeing to neck measurements for a bomb he was told really wouldn't be one. That really happened in reality. I've watched some absurd true crime stories. Truth is stranger than fiction, but not as entertaining as this movie.
I find it hard to believe that the audience rating is in the 70% range. My favorite genre is thriller/suspense movies, especially serial killers. This movie did not hold my interest, It was unrealistic and boring. Some say the twist and turns helped. I thought those were such minor additions, they did nothing for the movie to improve it in my view. Definitely would never watch this again. I watched it last night, and couldn't even remember the title of the movie, that is how little I enjoyed it. The script was very mediocre and sub par. Listen to the critics on this film and then subtract some more.
The film is so unbelievable one wonders how anyone could follow it, much less enjoy it. My only enjoyment was when it finally ended.
"Mr. Brooks" is a gripping psychological thriller that delves into the duality of human nature and the hidden darkness within. Kevin Costner delivers a compelling performance as Earl Brooks, a respected businessman who harbors a sinister alter ego, Marshall, portrayed with chilling intensity by William Hurt. The film masterfully explores the complexities of addiction and morality, keeping viewers on the edge of their seats. Demi Moore adds depth to the narrative as Detective Tracy Atwood, whose pursuit of the elusive "Thumbprint Killer" adds a layer of tension and intrigue. Director Bruce A. Evans skillfully balances suspense and character development, creating a thought-provoking cinematic experience. "Mr. Brooks" is a must-watch for fans of the genre, offering a fresh perspective on the classic cat-and-mouse tale.
Una historia diferente sobre asesinos seriales. Excelentes actuaciones. Vale la pena.
This movie is going to be a cult film, I agree that there are a lot of subplots... and I think it is really difficult to make all of this work together, and it does work together. I enjoyed a lot the couple of Costner-Hurt, what a complex acting should that be. Sometimes scary, other disgusting, other lovely, other like friends... I would love to see a couple more of this, prequel and sequel.
Filme implacável, com todas sátiras, suspense e delírios possíveis de um maniaco psicopata.
The guy from waterworld kills it in this movie
All the critics are Moron's. This movie is top 5 all time for me, and I don't like scary movies but I loved the back and forth of the Main character. Yes there are twists and turns, but for a genius level character like Mr. Brooks. It would be doable. If you like forensic files, or Law and Order, or if serial Killer psyche is interesting, watch a crazy person struggle trying to be good. It is awesome. I would watch if they made a followup 20 years later when demi moores character finally catches him.
"Mr. Brooks" is a film that leaves you scratching your head, not in confusion, but in disappointment. Despite a stellar cast featuring Kevin Costner and Demi Moore, the movie fails to deliver on its promising premise. The plot is as thin as a paperclip and stretched out over a runtime that feels longer than a cross-country road trip. The characters are utterly unbelievable; Mr. Brooks, a respected businessman who moonlights as a serial killer, is about as realistic as a unicorn in a police lineup. While the cast is undoubtedly talented, their performances are lackluster at best, making it difficult to invest in the story. This film had the potential to be a gripping psychological thriller, but instead, it squanders the opportunity. In the end, "Mr. Brooks" is a missed opportunity that will leave you wondering why such a fantastic cast would sign up for such a lackluster film. If you're looking for a thrilling experience, you'd be better off skipping this one.
It's a delight to see the unique Costner/Hurt duo on screen. This holds up to this day, being able to ignore some subplots that are a bit mundane. It's a classic of the serial killer genre with an original style. Ever since William Hurt passed, it became an even more rare cinema gem.
This movie was crafted interestingly and I kind of liked the way the killer weaved the path to the finale. But it was like watching a series that had been told it was cancelled and instead had to be made into a movie. There was not enough time to develop the elaborate set-up and to develop any depth to the characters. I think if this had been a 4 part series it would have been excellent.
Costner's bad acting is eclipsed by the non-acting of Dane Cook. How did Hurt agree to appear in this unbelievable travesty? Mr Brookes is the worst thing I have seen in memory.
Deben de hacer la continuación.
Very under raited.. One off the best movies Ive seen. A cult classic deserves a much higher rating..
Stylistic thriller. I enjoyed this movie. Great acting for the most part, especially Costner and Hurt.
Well-paced, unpredictable thriller. A lot of "how's he going to get out of this?" moments.
Great actors, cinematography, music, plot. Everything you want in a thriller. It will not disappoint.
"We have Dexter at home."
