Mr. Jones Reviews
This is an important movie in light of current events in Ukraine! Not quibbling about story-flow or (especially) photography...it's the STORY of Russia's relationship over the decades with Ukraine. And of an amazing Welsh reporter named Gareth Jones---an actual, real-life historical person who travelled to Ukraine in the time portrayed.
Important and relevant. Though not 100% accurate, it's very important and should lead to further and greater discourse and disclosure. Well written, well acted, well timed.
The roots of evil. How everything began.
Informative for me, a good dose of reality. A little difficult to follow, but non the less educational on Stalin.
True story about Gareth Jones, the journalist who (amongst others) witnessed and uncovered Stalin's famine in 1933. Obviously a dark and grim movie. And powerful.
See this movie. It is excellent and contains an extremely important message. Powerful people collude with other powerful people, and tell lies to the peasants. Gareth Jones worked tirelessly to expose the unbelievable evils of the Bolshevik Communists.
I think the subject matter demands 5 stars. Orwell is the famous one but how many knew about the Welsh reporter Mr Jones? Totally convincing portrayal of the places and the period.
"Norton has good qualities. However the way they chose to film - uncolourful - almost dark - was a bit too much. Depiction of Ukraine familne was good. Princess Margaret was good - would have welcomed more on her story." from a lady viewer.
I loved this movie; don't agree with the critics. Captivating, well acted.
A satisfying and necessary film, but a subject that deserved better.
Characters were believable. Set design and locations immerse you in the story. Sense of high stakes throughout the film. Could have done with more time spent in Ukraine and with Orwell. Otherwise, fantastic.
Watched after I got it for My mother on DVD who highly recommended it. So so many items such as these make me doubt what I was taught as a child. I can't even recall if, when I read Animal Farm, did I know it was about Communist Russia? Great cast. Great doubts arose.
I would have liked more suspense but the gore of Ukraine famine was well captured. Surprised to see a Western movie about Stalin repressions and Ukraine. Well done
Outstanding docudrama of the reporter who gave his all to expose Stalin's starvation of millions of Ukrainians in the 1930s. His reports inspired Orwell's Animal Farm.
Excellent and moving recreation of an important time in history. Beautiful. Heartbreaking.
Wow excellent movie.
Well done with a strong message of truth, art at its finest with a clear revealing of who is telling the truth and who is lying. The New York Times has a legacy to apologize for, what a filthy rag.
An important story to tell, but it was overly dramatic when it tried to play off cheap theatrics of suffering. I also didn't feel bad for the man. It also seemed to have its own agenda of anti-socialism that got in the way. It's too bad because this could have been much better. It was on Amazon.
The intensity and honesty of Norton's performance makes this worth watching.
A story that needed to be told, but its one of those films that is better as a documentary rather than a slow paced movie.
