Mr. Right Reviews

Doesn't get everything right, but in between the quirky trying-too-hard moments are some amiably charming moments.

| Original Score: 2/5 | Feb 3, 2021

I love the ridiculous humor in "Mr. Right." Just enough over the top to enjoy it, without losing my attention to the plot, as much as it could never really happen. But who cares, it was super funny.

| Original Score: 8.2/10 | Jul 13, 2020

The action sequences are a little choppy, but the humour is spot-on and rarely fails to get a laugh.

| Original Score: 8.5/10 | Nov 2, 2018

This is not high art cinema, but for ninety minutes Mr. Right is just plain fun.

Mr. Right is a perfectly entertaining, harmless little rom-com film infused with some post-modernist fun that sets it apart from your standard Nicholas Sparks schlock.

Kendrick is a passable heroine doing her best with an underwritten role, so it's left to Rockwell's easy manner and raffish charm to shoulder the heavy lifting.

| Original Score: 3/5 | Dec 1, 2016

While too self-aware to eclipse the films of the '90s to which it is so clearly indebted, Mr. Right still manages to scratch the same itch.

| Original Score: 3/5 | Oct 10, 2016

"I wanna do something terrible!" Kendrick announces early in the film, and she at least did that - she did 'Mr. Right.'

| Jul 9, 2016

Anna Kendrick continues to be eminently watchable in absolutely anything and everything.

| Original Score: 9/10 | Jul 7, 2016

Very uneven but ultimately passable RomCom guns-and-guts mash-up.

| Original Score: 3/5 | Jun 17, 2016

While it's supposed to add up to a witty marriage between romance and anarchy, it's so light on moral implications that it's just tacky.

| Original Score: 2/5 | Jun 15, 2016

Teamed together on another project in the future, [Rockwell and Kendrick] could really be on to something.

| Original Score: 2.5/5 | Jun 15, 2016

...a win-win charmer.

| Original Score: 17/20 | Jun 14, 2016

As a keen fan of black comedy, I was expecting a knockout, but it turns out to be a slap with a wet lettuce leaf.

| Jun 14, 2016

The hitman romcom... is pretty silly really, especially when it becomes a senseless bullet-fest.

| Jun 14, 2016

It's a tale of two undercooked films that abruptly becomes one undercooked film in Mr. Right, a romantic comedy that violently collides with an action thriller.

| Original Score: 1.5/4 | May 27, 2016

Rockwell and Kendrick are great together, but the movie never quite marries the cute romance and the bloody killings. Most of the time the two leads appear to be on their own in a completely separate movie.

| Original Score: 2/5 | May 26, 2016

The only surprise comes in the scattered moments of irreverence where it's actually mildly entertaining. The rest of the time this half-baked action-comedy-romance just feels like the worst of Hollywood clichs thrown together to see what sticks.

| Original Score: 2/5 | May 26, 2016

Sam Rockwell and Anna Kendrick's performances are good, but not enough to save this chaotic joke of a film. [Full review in Spanish]

Mr. Right isn't a bad movie as much as it is two-and-a-half, maybe three bad movies playing all at the same time.
