Music Reviews

Mar 31, 2025

I just hope that nobody who watches this movie actually believes that this is a good portrayal of autism, and I'm glad to see that everybody else shares my collective view that this is the opposite of a masterpiece and a horrible representation of autism. I didn't even like the music. The soundtrack is probably the second most important thing to me (besides for, of course, the writing) and it just felt really bad. I would not recommend this movie to anybody. There are better ways to spend your time than watching this. In fact, I'd rather watch TikTok than watch this again, and that's saying a lot!

Brilliantly beautiful. <3

I wish this could've been at least so-bad-it's-good, but Sia's Music is just abysmal.

Worst movie I’ve ever seen. This is a zero star movie.

I think that the movie is portraying what the world looks like in the eyes of an autistic person. The use of bright colours probably symbolises the way in which an autistic person sees the world,as beautiful and colourful. Music feels happier when she is in her own world and it helps to keep her afloat and under control. She is seeing the world in a different way, than we normal people do. And I personally would like to be in a world full of colour just like the one in Music. Nonetheless she is able to maintain personal hygiene, she can feed herself she can walk out alone, even though there's someone watching her from a distance,it shows that they trust her despite being autistic to do things by herself. But either way, this is just my opinion and people will always have some sort of criticism whether constructive or not but in this case it's horrid. We should appreciate someone else's vision because at the end of the day it's still there and there's nothing we can do about it. If you don't like it then don't watch it,or rather create your own if you think you can make something better. And again this is just my opinion 😅. Thought that the movie Music missed the mark in many ways,in terms of autism washing and no inputs from autistic people,I get that point, but was an autistic person going to be able to stick to the script? They can excel but the script did require an autistic person who cannot speak or understand so I'm wondeing, if they used one that can understand and speak that person would be... what did you call it? "Autism washing", and the one that can't speak or understand won't stick to the script.

7%?? This is totally political. I’m a Sia stan, but even still. The movie is decent. Plot, acting, music, are great. 7% is ridiculous.

Yikes. This movie is so tasteless, tone-deaf, insulting, ableist, offensive, hideous, and even downright dangerous at times - under what circumstances is it okay to depict an autistic child being restrained, and what's more, making it seem like it's okay? The only thing preventing me from giving this a lower rating is the fact that I've seen worse, unfortunately.

The people who found this movie offensive aren't autistic. This movie was an absolute banger of creativity. If you ever wanted to crawl into the head of a creative person, and try to experience the world through their lens... This movie gives you the best chance of doing that. I loved the music, costumes, and dancing. It was extremely tasteful, respectful, and well done. I appreciate Sia for being courageous enough to give us this beautiful gem.

This movie has a lot of heart. It´s NOT about autism, it is about people wearing masks or lose them and what happens, if they lose them. It is about so many things, but the whole movie is made in a way, you will love or hate it. Hate, when this is not a movie style you like. And that ´s okay. But if you cannot open your heart to it, you also won´t understand it.

Ew, I haven't actually seen it but have seen a few clips, and as an autistic I'm very offended by Sia's portrayal of ASD, I hate it, would not recommend.

I enjoyed this movie. People need to realize this movie was not intended to be a documentary about autism. But it was a sweat, heartfelt movie that we could use more of in this day of violent action flicks. It reminded me of the movie Bill staring Micket Rooney, which similarly, some could argue was not an accurate representation either. However that movie touched my heart as did this one. Good cast of talented actors and compelling story

This film is completely horrible. It made me feel so insecure about the way they depicted body language and stimming that us autistics do. It’s completely insulting and I hate the way that I felt. Because I know I need to accept myself but that movie made me feel otherwise. Also the scenes of restricting. Also the scene of restricting the main character music is disgusting, are we animals? This method literally killed a kid called Max Benson who his family wanted to “help” him. Sia why are you normalizing this behavior? You know you have a big fan audience that will think it’s normal what you are showing. You incorrectly realize how much power you have to what your audience does. Do better. Take this movie down. And she also had so many organizations to choose from and she choose autism speaks 😭 This film is offensive ablelist and makes a complete mockery of autistics body language. DO NOT WATCH

Brilliant! I watched this with my autistic granddaughter and she was mesmerized. She continually said "that's like in my head"! In watching Music and observing my granddaughter's response, I got a whole new perspective on both her and autism in general, and a new and more understanding relationship has been built with her. To the people who say this is misguided and does not represent autism accurately, I say bullshit! Autism is a spectrum - there is no right or wrong way to explain or portray it as every autistic person is very different. Think Rainman (and few complained then that the lead was portrayed by a non-autistic actor!), Elon Musk, Albert Einstein - all are (were) autistic, but all very different. Go to a special needs class and observe and talk with the students and you will better understand that at least some would live in a world like Music Gamble in the film. And, really, getting someone at the portrayed level of autism to play the part, to make it authentic? Really? It is so disappointing to see we have become a world where being negative, and finding the negative even in something so positive, has become the norm. This movie should be on every school curriculum, especially those schools with special needs and support classes. Get rid of the prejudice and bullshit of misunderstanding through education.

Absolute utter garbage. Insensitive to people on the spectrum. Whoever thought this was a good idea is a numbnuts.

As a critic with Asperger's, this is one of the most offensive, low-effort, biased movies I have ever watched. This movie gives false medical information and facts about Autism, while encouraging dangerous harmful behavior, claiming it's helpful. It's clear that the director knew NOTHING about Autism and did not even bother to research.

This felt like a 'Whats eating Gilbert Grape" inspired movie gone horribly wrong with music videos in it (lame) Maddie felt like she was making fun of people when acting in this movie... she was right but no one listened to her feelings.

I don't even know what to say... This is awful...

Aug 7, 2023

ablest uneducated trash. collaborating with a harmful "charity" that dose nothing for autistic people "autism specks". using a allistic (non autistic) actor to play a non verbal autistic character, showing prone restrains as a way to deal with meltdowns even though they have killed autistic kids like music and so much more crap. this movie isn't just offensive, its dangerous, don't watch it.

Very offensive towards autistic people. I don't even know why that movie was made
