My Dead Friend Zoe Reviews
Very well done in all aspects
Very well written... The characters had range that made you love them even when they were being unreasonable. I love seeing Morgan Freeman do his thing, as well Ed Harris. I'm currently living with and caring for my grandmother, so this really hit home. It touched on all the little nuances of supporting the elderly. I laughed and cried... this was a good movie.
MDFZ is a wonderful exploration of the citizen-soldier dichotomy and how the military succeeds in attracting some of the best and brightest: but not everyone can be as successful or resilient to deal with heavier things. Sonequa Martin-Green is fantastic, and pulls-off the constant flash-backs with grace and honor. The "feels" are "real," and PTSD presents in many ways. I love the other actors in this film, as well; but Green's performance is only approached by Ed Harris' portrayal of a fiercely independent veteran, himself, acutely feeling the frustrations of dementia in a world he sometimes doesn't recognize anymore. If you are active duty, a veteran, interested in the Gulf War, or just love good cinema, GO SEE THIS FILM!! 5/5 STARS!
It was amazing to see it all come together & veterans did fine job acting!
I really enjoyed this movie!! I am not a vet, but understood the emotions and flow of the movie. I was engrossed from minute one. Good job!! I hope everyone get to enjoy this movie!
Directed by military veteran turned filmmaker Kyle Hausmann-Stokes, this feature film offers a powerful exploration of mental struggles that transcends the military experience but translate to civilian life as well. It provides an eye-opening look at the lives of military personnel, both during and after their service, while also examining the diverse societal backgrounds that shape us all. The film portrays how individuals process pain, grapple with grief, and carry immense burdens—even those that don't belong to them. This deeply relatable theme resonates with a wide audience. Additionally, it sheds light on the complexities of post-military life and how the dynamics of relationships are formed during service and to once that service concludes. While the film's pacing can be slow at times, and the narrative may seem to unfold gradually, the director's perspective becomes increasingly clear and impactful by the end. Be prepared for an emotional experience; I was definitely moved.
Absolutely loved it. Ed Harris was amazing. Natalie Morales (Zoe) was hilarious and tragic at the same time. Captures the modern day struggle our veterans face.
Just a great and entertaining film. A must see movie.
I loved this movie so much that I saw it twice in theaters. I can’t wait to show it to my teenage daughter. We are a US Marine family and are too familiar with the difficult subjects covered in this film. They did such a great job with all of it and I loved how they had cameos for real veterans.
This movie tells the difficult story of so many veterans who come back from combat zones feeling damaged. It is a story of healing and continuing on in life. When sometimes you don't think you can. I highly recommend this to anyone..
All I can say is I was an utter mess by the end of this. And I am better for having experienced it.
Im a Vet. Thank you for making this film. It hits the right place in your chest. Thank you for keeping the story as real as can be. I will tell you, the reveal at the end, floored me! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👊🏼👍🏼
A fellow veteran made this film and I encourage you to watch it. Amazing movie. Without any spoilers, you will be exposed to the trials of soldiers returning from the field of battle, with heavy scars which can most often be internal. And still, they have to face the day-to-day problems everyone has to face: work, money, relationships. On top of that, family and friends who may no longer understand them. They must deal with internal struggles about how they now fit into the world. If you are a a veteran, know a veteran, hell, if you know what a veteran is you should watch Zoe. You might just understand them a little bit better, and appreciate their sacrifices. My Dead Friend Zoe is a must watch.
My Dead Friend Zoe is a carefully crafted roller-coaster of emotions, covering a sensitive topic like PTSD amongst veterans with a delicate mix of humor and sensitivity. Soniqua Martin-Green delivers an Oscar-worthy performance, with Ed Harris and Natalie Morales close behind. If you have any veterans in your family or a friend or loved-one dealing with PTSD or related mental health issues, this is a movie worth seeing. Even if you don't, it's still a fun and enjoyable watch!
Such a good movie, didn’t wanna miss anything and go get some more snacks from the concession stand during.
This is a story that clearly came from a place of deep love and understanding. It's a painful and important message told in a heartfelt and beautiful way. If you're open to it, you may be left with a lot to think about and process. Really well-cast and produced, as well. Highly recommend.
This movie will touch home for anyone who has lost a friend to suicide. Great movie. Touching in many ways!
Loved it! Good acting, funny and sad at the same time. Makes you think and wonder why so many vets end up killing themselves.
This movie is listed as comedy and drama, and it was certainly both of those. But for this Vietnam vet at least, it was far far more. It was healing. The most important movie I've ever seen.
the cast performs fantastically and the movie is a real tear jerker, especially in the last act.
