My King Reviews
Although it is not the first time that the disagreements between a heterosexual couple are captured on screen, Mon Roi's approach is original, it shows how simplicity can still surprise, as well as the twists and turns of life.

Mon Roi is an effective film with a passion and a bundle of emotions that has the viewer thinking about their own emotions ...

There is nothing new under the sun and this is its most serious mistake. Maïwenn pretends that the film is deep and all she gets is a quite pathetic result. [Full Review in Spanish]

Actress-turned director Maïwenn ...gets fantastic performances out of her leads here, as characters try to survive a toxic chemistry that feels completely real.

Despite the familiar narrative elements, the complex and setback-rife relationship between the man and the woman in the movie gives it a depth that few similar French films possess.

Courtship, pregnancy, marriage, adultery: everything you want to know about life.
| Original Score: A | Nov 13, 2017
There are no weaknesses in this film; the writing and direction are of the highest level.

[Mon Roi] becomes increasingly frustrating since over the course of a decade, Tony continues to make the same mistakes repeatedly, never learning the obvious lesson.

The film tells the story of deeply entangled love fraught with duality, beauty and repulsion, humor and cruelty, sensuality and rawness, all at the same time.

If you acclimatise to its unique blend of melodrama and realism, then My King is an arresting watch throughout, with plenty of reasons to recommend.

It's self-indulgent claptrap about a failed romance and marriage.

A great movie recommended for people who believe in love and heartbreak. [Full review in Spanish]

The movie not have much to say that is new about how an insecure woman can be tormented by a sexy, narcissistic man who alternately overwhelms her with affection and rejects her coldly, but it tells this ageold story in a way that held my interest.

The meteoric Bercot brings to mind, variously, Isabelle Huppert, Michelle Williams, and Toni Collette. And Cassel has the greatest head in cinema next to that of Javier Bardem. But not even they can make this miserable marriage work.

I can't deny the merits of My King. But I stand by my assessment of this kind of movie. It's difficult to watch for all its meanness and destructive histrionics.
| Original Score: 7/10 | Sep 26, 2016
A movie that will make the audience feel miserable but in a good way. There's a lot of memorable scenes and plenty of crying material. [Full review in Spanish]

For all the obvious craftsmanship and powerful acting in "Mon Roi," you might find the two hours you spend with such insufferable characters as Georgio and Tony a chore to endure.

Love is blind, but the audience isn't, and why these future contestants on The Jerry Springer Show stay together is anyone's guess, particularly Mawenn's.
| Original Score: 1/5 | Sep 9, 2016
Don't look for a happy ending or, for that matter, any definitive resolution of the two-hour roller coaster ride. The rise and fall of this romantic empire is not necessarily over, even when it's over.
| Original Score: 3/4 | Sep 2, 2016
Within the tempest, though, Mawenn captures some lovely scenes.
