Mystic River Reviews
This is an exceptional, exquisite masterpiece of a film. Brilliantly directed with Eastwood at the helm alongside an extremely talented cast. Genres of crime, drama and mystery are interwoven creating a suspenseful, dark, yet fascinating atmosphere. The detective storyline alone I found wonderfully entertaining and interesting. A heavy, emotionally mature movie.
A Classic Crime Drama. The music is good but not used much and not that catchy. But that's kind of a trademark of Eastwood films so it's expected. Everything else is really well done with really great direction by Eastwood. It's a great dive in how trauma from a childhood event can affect not just the one victim. This is very much a murder mystery police investigation on top of a character study of the lives of 3 kids grown up. It's got a very good twist, the characters are very layered, complex and sympatheitc, and it also is very complicated and complex. Meaning it's very jumpy at times following all the different events involved. To it's credit it's never incoherent but it's just A LOT. Because each one of the three has like 3 other supporting characters around them and it just gets a lot to follow. But you can't really cut any of them out. A testament to how well it's written. Anyone who is a fan of the director, any actors in this, crime movies or dramas should give this a try.
Excellent film. Great acting & casting. Some may hate this movie because it’s not particularly violent. It’s not supposed to be. It’s a story about an accident and a cover up.
Career lows from everyone involved. I mean from Penn, Robbins, Bacon, Linney and Harden to the script girl, the Best Boy, craft services and the drivers. Whoever let Eastwood make movies? What made them think this was a good idea? This is such a slap in the face of cinema it makes me sick. I literally just threw the DVD in the garbage.
Well filmed and good acting but the story of the movie is lacking a lot. You can tell right from the start that the person they want you to believe is the killer, in such painfully obvious way, is not actually the killer, because if he was, the movie would be pointless. So you just wait there for an hour and a half waiting to see who is the actual killer while all the focus of the movie is on the guy that you already know is not the killer.
It seems that Clint Eastwood has been doing everything right for decades, bringing out the best in his actors. Despite the weighty themes he explores, his films never fall into excess or sentimentality.
Great writing, acting and direction. A movie with people who are real and whose lives are rendered from theirs and other's past. You can sense it won't end well, but the characters are powerless to prevent tragedy as each only holds their part of the puzzle. A movie for us fatalists.
It was good and all but there was no suspense added to the plot. The story evolves around an incident that happened at the past and I failed to see how that enhances the mystery of a detective movie. Not a bad movie, but not a good pay off at the completion.
Amigos de infância separados por desventuras trágicas que rompem o laço que os unia. A partir daí conflitos somados a dura realidade de um crime, os farão questionar o valor e a importância dessa amizade na fase adulta. Emocionante, comovente, visceral.
Some may not like the movie’s ending, but it is how a movie should end. Mystic River is a heart wrenching film with a superb title. On top of that, the film has sad background score. The performance of Sean Penn (played Jimmy Markum) and Tim Robbins (played Dave Boyle) is also captivating. Much applause to Clint Eastwood and Brian Helgeland for crafting this masterpiece. It stayed true to the book
Mystic River delivers powerful performances that anchor a promising story, but ultimately ends up wasting it's potential into an unsatisfying ending, mistaking shallow cruelty from true tragedy and ultimately wasting an outstandingly catchy first act thread.
It is a truly powerful and heartbreaking movie.
Clint Eastwood directs a moving drama anchored by outstanding performances. Tim Robbins' Academy Award-winning performance elevates Mystic River's well-written script. It effectively tells a gutwrenching story, a rarity in Hollywood today as filmmakers shy away from such harsh yet poignant themes.
De lo mejor que eh visto sobre un asesinato y cosas sin resolver. Buena historia, buenas actuaciones y lo mejor de todo es ese final tan impactante y que no muchos lo esperaban.
The best thing about this film is the casting and their performance. I found the soundtrack is a bit too loud for the mood.
The problem with "Mystic River" is that it just didn't need all the investigative elements of its script. The proof is that when you get to the bottom of what really happened, it is just very underwhelming. As a result, it just undermines the power of the drama which really should have been the sole focus of the film.
The way this movie draws you into its characters was fabulous. I felt connected. I thought the tempo of this movie was great as well, and a thought-out storyline.
The paths that you follow can lead to seemingly random intersections with the past, leading to very tragic results! Former friends Sean, Jimmy and Dave are reunited when a violent murder places these three on a collision course that will leave them altered in ways they never wanted to be, leaving them to pick up the pieces of the aftermath. A dreary mystery that explores the themes of lost innocence and the affects that leaves on the future generation!
Watching again in 2024 and the movie just doesn't pass the test of time. Once thought Sean's performance was so profound but now find it to be a bunch of yelling and brooding but no tears. The Savage brothers are just goofy now. The entire cast in the old neighborhood had me asking myself, were people really like this? I had myself scratching my head on some of the jumps in logic, too. It just didn't hit on rewatch and wow, 2003 was like a 100 years ago.
Some pretty good performances, but the plot is predictable and boring because of it's predictability.
