Understand this or not, for being a movie that is 20 years old, I wouldn't say it has fallen off in the slightest. Still has that awkward but funny charm that it did when it first came out in theaters. I will say though, if you have kids under the age of 13, this won't be a film to watch with them, mainly due to the films style of humor and because of that a younger demographic is going to have a difficult time understanding the films humor. This would also be the perfect movie to see with your partner on a date. Still holds up after 20 years, and is a timeless classic, 11/10.

This movie has a very quiet beauty to it. It brings memories of small towns and the awkwardness which many high school movies neglect. What is great is although I did even just make the claim, this isn’t really much of a high school movie, in high school movies the high school itself is a huge factor but it really isnt, the factors are Rico comes and is a dick, Kip meets his girlfriend, napoleon makes friends. This movie is truly one of the greatest comedies and a must watch for people trying to get into non-linear and even art house films.

Words cannot describe how much i love this film. my friend showed me it and the entire experience was just so pleasant, the entire joke is everyone is backward which s absolutely hilarious. I love Napoleon Dynamite so much this movie the literal Center of my existence. My life was so much better after watching this film.

Painfully boring. The humor can be summarized as “this guy is awkward,” “ha, he got pushed into a locker,” “he said idiot in a funny voice” or “ha, he said something stupid.” All the punchlines are completely expected (e.g., he draws a bad picture of the girl that he asks to the dance). Between me and my girlfriend there were probably 4 laughs total. It’s really just people acting awkward and “humor” based on being weird/not in line with social norms (e.g., putting tater tots in his pocket - maybe in theory it’s funny, but watching it actually play out is just ehh). I generally think it’s funny to go against what people are expecting and it can be funny to be weird, but just being weird on its own is not funny unless there’s some substance. Even if it’s supposed to be a satire by over exaggerating life in a small town, that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s funny. To be fair, I went in expecting a comedy so my grade is based on those expectations. Regardless, even without an expectation of comedy, the characters or the plot aren’t particularly interesting so it likely wouldn’t change that much if I had different expectations coming in. Different people enjoy different things, but this movie wasn’t for me.

I never understood the hype around this film when it first came out and, for the life of me, I still can't. The characters are thoroughly shallow and unpleasant and their repeated failures seem to serve no other purpose than a chance for the average moviegoer to laugh at their misfortunes. For a supposed satire of small-town suburbia and/or '80s high school culture, there's an excruciating lack of clever humor throughout large sections of the film, leaving us to gape, much like it's titular character, with numbed disinterest as the minutes unwind before us. It's truly a triumph of style without any substance.

It makes no sense uncle Rico is funny character so is Rex! But this movie is decent I feel bad that napoleon got dumped by a Idiot and we didn’t even see the Pedro won worlds worst movie but somewhat good never watching this again Gosh!

People kept talking about how funny it was. I kept waiting for it to get funny and then it ended. Good scenery and soundtrack. That's about it.

I found a few jokes chuckleworthy. Overall it is very slow, not funny. I wish the whole movie had the same pacing as the last 20-30 minutes

Filme mais ou menos, o roteiro é mais ou menos, o filme traz uma garoto chamado napoleon dynamite que tenta ser engraçado no filme, mas só tem um drama com ele, gostei da cena do baile, o ruim é que ele é meio retardado, então as vezes que tem cenas com ele o retardadismo dele atrapalha a cena, e isso fica ruim, eles não usam isso de forma engraçada.

I love this film, though I can understand why some may not. It's an American film though it chimes with a particularly English sense of humour. I saw it soon after it was released, but watched it today in 2025 and loved it even more. It's a kind of homage to the awkwardness of adolescence and still makes me laugh out loud. Great performances all round and a brilliant soundtrack that totally complements the awkwardness on screen.

I quite enjoyed this movie. My style of humor has always been unhinged. This movie is unhinged. I love it! Also, it is a comedy movie that is has little to no screaming or loud obnoxious noises as most would. In fact most of the actors are monotone nearly the entire time. This movie is almost a 50/50 of slapstick and British humor. I enjoy the vibe. Also, this style of comedy is rarely done, even to this to day, oddly enough. I need more of it! Modern comedy sucks the life out of me.

I've watched this movie 3 times just trying to understand what people love about it. I grew up in this era....I don't get it. For me this is one of the worst movies I've ever seen.

The movie is so amazing but it may not be amazing for everyone one. From the awkward scenes, to the unnecessary sexual themes,these characteristics could catch some viewers off guard. The movie is so simple and funny without trying, has a well thought storyline with loveable characters but it may not be overall a movie that all viewers will be pleased with.

Absolutely amazing movie the music, the cast, and the awkwardness of the whole movie everything about it is sublime.
