National Lampoon's Animal House Reviews
If you don't love Animal House, you don't have a pulse.
The raunchy comedy classic that every college movie since has tried to copy or rip off its success all while most fail to realize what made this so funny in the first place. This movie is so densely fast paced with hilarious jokes one right after another. It’s super quotable and the whole cast has great chemistry. There’s such an infectiously fun sense of chaotic friendship between the whole crew and it’s super entertaining the whole way through. The soundtrack is catchy with highlights from “Shout!” and the ending credits titular song. John Belushi deservedly steals the show as the fraternity wild card of the bunch. Admittedly, some parts are pretty dated, but luckily it doesn’t go nearly as far as its infamous imitators from the 80’s. The ending is a bit of a mess and kind of dumb, but to be fair it almost feels like a parody of the trope it created with its self-awareness of the kind of story they’re telling here as there’s technically no legit resolution to Delta House’s inditement or failing grades, yet they all still somehow end up as success stories. But regardless, it’s a hilarious college screwball comedy that mostly holds up and is both the first and best of its kind.
Yep five stars if you ask me John belushi is mostly the main reason I watched this movie he’s next level he’s my favorite character in this movie
another classic not to miss. the original college frat humor
My favorite comedy of all time. I love all of the politically incorrect themes and moments. This may cause some of you to need a safe space but I'll be still laughing througout.
I thought Tim Mattison was the star of AH. Instead it turned out to be John Belushi. Hilarious either way, total guy movie. NRJ.
I think this should be mandatory film school watching.
One of the greatest movies of all time. Perfect
10% rating ... I know I'm in the minority, but I did not find this to be an entertaining movie. Plot seemed dull and I found the characters to be annoying and obnoxious. I guess college frat humor and antics have never been my form of comedy.
Simply a classic. Especially if you had a tight group of friends in college and had a ton of good times. A pledge pin?!!
Comedy classic!!! All time best!
A classic frat-house comedy that has often been copied, but never outdone. John Belushi is amazing, and you can see the young filmmakers Ramis and Reitman honing their craft. A must-see if you are a fan of solid comedies.
A classic. So many now famous actors and actresses in this. Described college in the 60's to a T. Shamalama ding dong!
All time college movie
Hilarious, college comedy.
Legendary comedy. Each scene is a classic scene.
Very, very funny. This is not for kids.
You either like this kind of humor or you don't. I love it. You either had times similar to this in college or you didn't. I wasn't in a frat (thank heavens) but had similar times so I appreciate where this movie is coming from. I can see why some might think this movie is overrated but I enjoy it for all it's worth
I have a feeling Animal House was better when it was fresh. So many one-liners in it have been repeated longer than I've been alive so they have just become part of the public domain, and it is hard to appreciate the originality of the film. It has a lot of small laughs, many smarter than you would expect, but no big ones. Some scenes haven't aged well, or were perhaps bad the first time around. When the boys leave a group of girls at a black bar, it isn't funny, it's disturbing and reprehensible (luckily, the filmmakers had the sense to include a scene showing the girls turned out fine).
