Night School Reviews
With a story this overused, I’d be far more forgiving if it was at least funnier. But it has no real comedic flair, and so didn’t generate any noteworthy reaction outside of the occasional chuckle.

Haddish, though, matches Hart’s up-tempo comic energy, which also has some genuinely funny supporting turns.

I laid back and had a few laughs... It gives the [comedians] the opportunity to showcase their comedic chops.

Night School is filled with funny people but the humour falls somewhere on a scale between Welcome Back Kotter and Saved by the Bell.

For die hard Kevin Hart fans only.

In all likelihood, it'll be just good enough to please most Hart/Haddish fans who've been anxiously awaiting this film for months.

Night School is the kind of comedy that just keeps getting in its own way.

Somewhere in here lies a sweet movie about overcoming learning disabilities, but the sixty screenwriters have buried it under endless cynical repartee.
| Original Score: 1/5 | Jan 29, 2020
In front of the camera the performances seem laboured and fully phoned in. Behind the camera there seems to be minimal direction or structure. And in front of the screen? You'll have given up too.
| Original Score: 2/5 | Jan 28, 2020
An enjoyable comedy that's held back by too many minutes and poor pacing in the middle.
| Original Score: 6/10 | Jan 10, 2020
Night School has a strong comedic cast lead by Kevin Hart and Tiffany Haddish, but even the two of them combined can't save the film from its weak script.
| Original Score: 3/10 | Oct 29, 2019
An ideal movie starring Hart and Haddish would make them comedic equals along the lines of Cheech & Chong or Laurel & Hardy. Instead, they're more like Martin & Lewis, Abbott & Costello and Groucho/Chico/Harpo & Zeppo.
| Original Score: 2/4 | Jul 18, 2019
The supporting cast had funnier moments than the leads.
| Original Score: 3/5 | Jul 12, 2019
This silly film doesn't gloss over the embarrassment that comes with learning challenges, and the commitment required to overcome this adversity.
| Original Score: 3/5 | May 7, 2019
Could've been a more consistently enjoyable comedy as opposed to the hit and often miss product it ultimately plays out as.

The premise, though promising, isn't very original, and director Malcolm D. Lee's execution isn't very inventive.
| Original Score: 2.5/5 | Apr 11, 2019
Try as he might, director Malcolm D. Lee can't recapture the near-transcendent raunchiness of his hard R-rated Girls Trip within the softer, cuddlier PG-13 formula.

I enjoy Kevin Hart on occasion and it seemed like a cute premise. Unfortunately, I did not enjoy the film.
| Original Score: 3/10 | Feb 25, 2019
Little more than a collection of uninspired plot points and go-nowhere improvs that have been edited together almost at random, this is a film that somehow manages to be even more listless, lifeless and mirthless than the trailers hyping it suggest.

"Night School" could have been better. A LOT better. Instead, we get a meandering story where the plot is sparse and the jokes are even sparser.
