Brilliant use of parallels and very creative way of tying things all together. Edge of your seat type of movie. Takeaways from this movie is that people can be strong and different ways and that just because a man has a weak moment, even in a critical situation, that doesn't make him a bad man. character development. Grew to love Michael Shannon.

Tom Ford directed this psychological thriller, which stars my two favourites, Jake Gyllenhaal and Michael Shannon. Shannon was nominated for Best Supporting Actor at the Academy Awards, but did not win, which is a tragedy and another badge of shame for the Academy. The film has a distinctive narrative approach, bringing forth scenes and characters straight from the novel read by Amy Adams, who portrays Jake Gyllenhaal's ex-wife, who gave her his manuscript dedicated to her to read, and whom Amy had left due to his lack of life goals. I mostly liked the novel's plot, which is heightened by its criminal undertones. The fact that Tom created a narrative inside a story is clever.

Average watch. Rating: 6/10

A very engaging and entertaining film. The multifaceted approach to the character development really connects the dots of the plot. The level depth supplied to both storylines is impeccable. Speaking of impeccable, the acting is incredible. Must watch.

I liked the scenes that focused on the book's story, but other than that, it was pretty boring. People say, "You didn’t understand it; you have to look closer." Honestly, the message of the movie isn’t something worth “looking closer” at. I get that they’re trying to tell something, but it could have been done better. The acting was okay, nothing special , except Jack Gyllenhaal,. Overall, it’s just an 'okay' movie. Whether you watch it or skip it, you won’t be missing much.

Impossible to watch, couldn't get through 30 minutes, absolutely terrible, contrived and implausible, which really doesn't work in a "true life" setup. Criminal waste of decent acting talent on a dire script.

Something about this movie just sticks with you. The story may be a bit slow at points but the first third is very tense and the rest keeps you engaged revealing the why of what happened. Music by Korzeniowski is excellent and sets the mood.

One of the best films I have ever seen

Visually arresting & excellent acting all round. But; and it’s a big BUT: the ending left a lot (I.e. everything) to be desired.

Excellent movie, totally captivating. I was hooked on from the first minute to the last.
