Noel Reviews

Feb 11, 2024

How did this cornucopia of holiday corniness attract not one, not two, but FOUR Oscar winning actors to participate? It blows my mind! Is a good script really that hard to find? This is one of those motion pictures that actually has several ongoing stories occurring simultaneously, and we witness overlapping story lines and characters from one story popping up in one of the other stories to form an overall cohesion. It makes me sad because the basic theme of overwhelming loneliness during the holidays is topical and an important subject this time of year. This movie contains the strangest, most ludicrous plot line in recent memory - a lonely guy whose greatest Christmas memory was spending the holiday in the emergency room after an accident when he was little hires a thug to rough him up so he has an excuse to go back to the hospital for a Christmas celebration. A movie featuring this cast certainly can't be a full-out disaster but whatever credibility can be found is almost entirely due to the talent of the actors involved. A big disappointment!

This is one of the most beautiful films of all time. The idea of crossing each character story, their dramas and their respective redemptions is exquisite, a masterpiece. This film is capable of touching even the hardest of hearts.

Excellent Christmas story line with several sub-stories that intertwine with each other and culminate with feel good conclusions. There are so many great known actors that put in some fantastic acting performances. You won't be sorry watching this movie, in my humble opinion Noel is a classic.

Wonderful touching Christmas story that teaches us about love, compassion, and forgiveness of one another

I love this movie! I know some see it as treacly but I personal relate to the Rose character so much it just touches me. The gentle kindness between strangers, everyone getting their needs met, some hurts healed.... it just gets to me every dang time!!

Could have been good but Santa is not a girl, just like Mother Nature isn't a man. I get what they are trying to do, but not with Santa....

As a huge Paul Walker fan, I couldn't believe I hadnt seen this movie yet, so I was excited to watch. Woof. There is pretty much nothing enjoyable about this film. The plot never really takes off, yet there is too much going on. The characters aren't ones you want to root for either. Susan is a gem, so some of her scenes are ok, but overall this is a massive snooze fest.

Love this film!!! So real and heartfelt! Susan and Alan are fantastic. Paul Walker and Penelope Cruz are great as well and of course the great Robin Williams. ❤

Noel is a compelling holiday drama with a touching message about love, family, and forgiveness. The story follows several New Yorkers on Christmas Eve as they cross paths and struggle to come to terms with their personal struggles. Starring Susan Sarandon, Penélope Cruz, Paul Walker, Alan Arkin, and Robin Williams, the film features an impressive cast that delivers some strong performances. And the writers do a fairly good job at balancing the different character stories. Still, it gets a little cliché at times and a bit contrived. Yet despite its flaws, Noel is a heartwarming film about the redemptive nature of Christmas.

Another run of the mill Christmas movie that is kind of watchable as long as you do not expect that much.

Schmaltzy Hallmark type thing. Can't deal with it.

This is a great film and can't understand why with such a well known cast that it doesn't get any credit. I brought this after Paul Walkers very sad passing and have watched it every Christmas since. Its a great Christmas movie as it has some real hard and sad moments but it will also pick you up and make you smile.

This is a tough one --- there is everything to fall in love with --- there are also a few scenes that make you wince. Penelope Cruz and Paul Walker are beyond believable as the PERFECT joining of two very different worlds. The Alan Arkin-Paul Walker plot line is at once painful and lovely in the spirit of the season. The Robin Williams-Susan Sarandon plot line is devastatingly heart-rendering --- and --- at the same time beautiful to watch unfold. Susan Sarandon 'where is love" sequences are a great time to raid the fridge. All in all --- a true Christmas Classic --- definitely NOT to be missed.

It's an ensemble cast movie that wastes its given talent with a script filled with unnecessary twists, all-too convenient character development to feel anywhere relatable and an uneven tone to match anything close to the holiday spirit. Even though they show the most emotion not even Paul Walker and Robin Williams can help the script. The camerawork and music also do their job right but feel a bit late to be fixing anything. Very sappy drama taking place on Christmas Eve, the only connection to the holiday in the movie. Five characters who tenuously and not so believably in all cases have a connection learn a bit about themselves and each other. No really compelling story line, just some ideas thrown together to see what sticks. The reincarnation shtick and the pseudo-supernatural bent of a couple of acts seemed to have no place in such a drama.

when I first started watching this I couldn't remember why I had this in my cue then I saw the cast and both paul walker & robin Williams r in the gr8 cast and both turn in excellent performances in this X-mas drama.

I found Noel to be a rare gem of a holiday movie. So often the Christmas genre is clogged up with films that are syrupy and twee. There are the loveable family favorites, for sure, but taking a chance on an adult holiday film often ends in regret. That is very much not the case with this one, directed by Chazz Palminteri (A Bronx Tale and Bullets over Broadway). The story centers around the lives of five people on Christmas Eve. Relationships, love, and loss are thematic throughout. There are some notable actors in this cast; including both the late Paul Walker and Robin Williams. Williams' part is especially endearing, and Susan Sarandon is notably superb. I urge you to give this one a chance next Christmas; a cup of hot cocoa and a cozy blanket is a must while viewing.

A real downer for Christmas, but lots of brutal reality about living and dying.

This movie has a lot of heart and appropriately so for being a holiday movie. It's all about angels and if you've experienced the power of angels, it becomes all the more meaningful and with both Walker and Williams in it, you're in for a treat.
