The movie is worth watching. It's good but sad, and I felt bad for Danni throughout the film. I never once thought she was a bad person—instead, I saw her as a lost soul and felt sorry for her. While there were plenty of cringy moments, there were also some laughs and drama!
Really cool film!!! Protagonist sort of becomes the villain of the story. This movie covers very heavy topics like terrorism & gun violence, the emotions were believable, the story/premise is unique & interesting, would recommend this film to practically anyone. Also neat to see a US film that doesn't have the "happy ending" sort of situation which plagues most movies here in the states.
The only thing that stands out is the acting, otherwise, everything feels plain and falls flat. It’s predictable in a dull way and I never felt truly engaged. The journey from beginning to end lacks any real peaks or moments of excitement.
I really liked this film. It feels relatable especially with social media 'likes' being such a huge part of our lives. I think many of us have possibly gone through similar internal struggles as the protagonist... it's a good take on social media, influencer culture, and mental health issues, both on a personal and collective level. thumbs up!
A dislikable main character in a dislikable world. What a waste of my time.
Too much wannabe, trying too hard to be something. Meh plot , none realistic situation or character. No character development. Ending has no point. No forgiveness ,just pure hatred. You want to tell that internet harassment is Okay? I give you one "your movie is s*cks"
I LOVED this film!!! A MUST WATCH!!! Quinn Shephard rocks the film world with her smart, funny stylish film making!!!
I Loved this movie!!! Very smart and funny!!! Quinn Shephard is the best and sharpest film maker of this generation!
Unlike some viewers, I had no laughs, but the situation was treated with earnestness and the ending was above average. At times conventional, some really shallow characters, but the main ones were very dedicated to the theme, which is not easy to pull through.
Good movie! Well acted, good plot, and not so typical ending.
having very mixed feeling at the moment
Zoey e bine, scenariul nu mereu
Very good ending - no happy ending!
Extremely well-written for this generation; present & witty!
A really powerful and vulnerable cautionary tale about the route younger generations are traveling down with the digital and social world being so intimately linked these days. It provides multiple layers for self-reflection by displaying exaggerated versions of behaviors I believe we all exhibit on varied scales. I could honestly go on and on about all the layers to unpack from the visuals to the dialogue and acting which in my opinion is the mark of a truly successful film.
Fame is cool but sometimes it's not the same as being known and it can turn into hatred very quickly This movie is a hard lesson in not exploiting a tragedy and using it to gain attention on the internet in the current influencer culture Zoey Deutch plays Danni Sanders; she's a young woman that uses social media as part of her job as a writer But she's actually a photo editor and wants to go bigger Things change after she fake-travels to Paris and a disaster occurs involving millions of people dying Danni plays the victim card and it comes with serious consequences leading to many online users turning her into the most hated person in the world She's also being followed by a physical manifestation of a stranger in a hoodie showing her guilt living in this charade wondering how long she can keep it up This is a sad reality of the current cancel culture that takes shape The internet loves turning victims into villains taking away all that love and attention just as easily Coming clean is brave but it comes with sacrificing so much But the tale serves as a reminder to ask if you're ok, you shouldnt let distractions take over, sharing your truth is important, a real traumatic event serves as a wake up call to enjoy life's joys that we take for granted Maybe the truth is everything is not okay and that's fine to admit sometimes Director Quinn Shepard makes some very salient points about the online life where popularity is dominated by clicks and likes and skewering the hunger to be noticed The film doesn't really have a proper conclusion and misses a few crucial points while conveying its message But Zoey Deutch is a charming enough lead even if her character is doing something reprehensible, she still ends up completing herself A dark comedy that is also a character study
What a drag of a movie. The comedy was not there at all. Just failed joke after failed joke. Now where this movie made some sense was in the final act and the overall message was truly conveyed. It was the saving grace for the film but it wasn't that good.
Young twentysomethings working at alt-media outlets in the city might be the worst people in America. Danni Sanders (Zoey Deutch) portrays the quintessence of the entitled Gen Z/Late-Millennial urbanite obsessed with status and "going viral" — this is most pronounced in the fact that Danni doesn't seem to take a single cent from anyone and merely spirals on the high of becoming the center of attention. Bad things happening to an unlikeable character is always tricky, but overall, the movie succeeds in juxtaposing Danni's hollowness with a character of genuine trauma and purpose in Rowan (Mia Isaac). However, the biggest sin the movie makes is the opening: Why on Earth begin with Danni's takedown??? Clearly, the audience's satisfaction would come with the schadenfreude of Danni finally getting her comeuppance, and yet, the script opens with Danni "doom-scrolling" through threat after threat in Tweets and social media comments before we even know exactly what she did — which was pretend she was present in Paris during a terrorist attack. Moreover, if you're going to "start at the end," make it a red herring and give her a redeemable character arc — we don't get this either. In fact, she explicitly says that no such arc will be given at the beginning of the movie. This is one of those movies that feels late but necessary — it has 2017 written all over it. With a couple of minor script changes this would've been a much more enjoyable movie.
The actors did a good job but the story was pretty awful really! I actually don’t even know what to say.. the ending was a little much also.. I probably would skip it
