Notting Hill Reviews
The thing I didn’t understand was she was the most famous movie star in the world yet she walked around London, ate with him in a restaurant, went to the movies and nobody recognized her? Buses go by with her picture on them! It’s a cute movie but that bothered me.
This was a really cute and funny romcom! Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant were amazing.
This movie is so buns 💔. It made me feel like I got a frigging packet yo 💔. Anna Scott’s character was such a raging narcissist it’s actually wild. The acting was overall trash and only thing that made the movie worth watching was Hue Grant 😼. The whole plot is so random and it reminds me of a dog and a hamster trying to have a conversation. Their conversations were so random and awkward and the only thing that would have saved this movie was if Anna Scott died 💕. I hate that he took her back in the end because she did him so wrong. Not even a week after she talked shite about him, she tried so say “I’m just a girl tehe 🎀”. I wouldn’t recommend this movie unless you wanna laugh about how random and stupid the plot and acting is.
It’s perfect .. one of the best rom coms of all time
Julia Roberts, Hugh Grant, absolute gold.
Fanny Flutters February #4: Hugh Grant makes me have huge grunts (i tried okay) The fact the one Welsh character is such an absolute freakazoid is so rude but unfortunately also somewhat accurate. Julia Roberts, the talent that you are. Hugh Grant is an absolute heart throb oh my god, it is also SO HOT that Julia kissed him first, like yesss girl make that move! The narrative overall is fine, I don't get why for a first date he introduces people to his family, that's kind of insane and would be my absolute worst nightmare for a first date. But I mean hey, for Hugh Grant I'd do ANYTHING. Horny Rating: 4/10
Not all of Julia Roberts' charisma or Hugh Grant's inexhaustible charm could save this film from being, for the most part, incredibly boring. The couple has zero development or depth and, therefore, when it should charm with some intense and overwhelming feeling, it just makes everything a bit awkward and boring, as if trying to convince that two adults fell intensely in love at first sight as if they were two teenagers. If that's the case, they failed miserably. They don't convince me (or maybe anyone). I liked the introduction of William's family and friends, even though it's very brief. Besides, it's not funny enough, it's not romantic enough. The soundtrack, on the other hand, is impeccable.
If you have tears left over from earlier love, and believe in magic, watch Notting Hill.
It has been almost 10 years since I watched this this film for the first time. I decided to revisit it this February for my rom-com movie month in honor of Valentine’s Day. BIG mistake! I was reminded today why I have only ever watched it once and will never watch it again. The plot honestly made no sense. We find Julia Robert’s character in Notting Hill while on a promotional tour for a film she’s doing and from the moment she meets Hugh Grants character she is totally rude, cold and standoff-ish towards him yet we’re supposed to believe he finds this behavior charming and acceptable. Nothing much happens that hints to there being a genuine budding romance between them. I mean she’s aloof in the bookshop, he then spills a juice on her during a coffee run after their initial encounter and next thing you know she kisses him out of the blue while back at his apartment after he offered to let her go clean herself up there. They’re hot and cold throughout the movie with Julia’s character constantly minimizing Hugh’s character’s feelings towards her and then running back when he rightfully withdraws from her. Not to mention she was also “pursuing” Hugh’s character while she had a boyfriend which she never made clear. She then played the victim when she was caught by Hugh. She would push him away, only to seek him out for comfort when something was going wrong in her life which made her motives feel disingenuous. In the end after all the emotional push and pull she puts Hugh through, she comes to the “realization” she does have feeling for him even though she never treated him as such. Hugh then tried setting a healthy boundary and he put an end to the toxic relationship after being ghosted by Julia a few months prior when Julia had unexpectedly lashed out at him for something he quite frankly did not have any control over. Just when you finally think he does the respectable thing and stands up for himself, it turns out to be all for not as he is basically groveling for her to take him back at a press junket before she leaves to the US again for her newly announced planned hiatus. Overall the plot was pretty awful and the movie was overrated at best. I don’t understand how this has such a high rating. The whole situation was giving toxic relationship with a narcissist. The only saving grace in this move Rhys Ifens character who brought the only humor found in entire film.
An absolutely amazing film, full of love, laughter and much more! A must watch for anyone
57%. 1/17/25. The guy's family was the only funny part. It's strange because Hugh Grant's character doesn't even do anything to woo Julia Roberts. He just spills on her, she ends up at his place and she kisses him. Then they get together and break up a few times. 0/5 rewatch.
Hugh Grant's character deserved better. Juliet Roberts character is a karen on steroids. The most obnoxious female romantic lead of all time. I never thought someone could make Julia Roberts seem unlikable, but this movie succeeded. That's like making Tom Hanks unlikable. To do this in a romantic comedy where you are supposed to like her, is almost impressively bad. Don't waste your time.
If you have never seen this movie and have anything that resembles a heart, the movie is delightful. It is 25 years old this year and remains one of my favorite movies of this type. This movie is excellent and also good as a reference point to know what critics never to listen to as the few that had something negative to say are clearly emotionless sacks in need of a life.
There's a chance to get lost in the plot. But if you're watching it with enough interest, you'll find it to be the right kind of rom-com. Must see
Love story well told ❤️
Very poor movie. Ridiculous storyline based around a narcissistic female main character that Hugh wants to get down on his knees and beg forgiveness from. The Hugh character as always having next to no emotional range. Amazing how many people still find the film romantic but there again it plays out in the divorce statistics I suppose.
One of Richard Curtis' best films, Notting Hill is an amazingly interesting and hilarious movie. I really stayed involved with this film throughout all of the twists and turns throughout the story, and was impressed by the writing, Grant's performance, and wonderful imagery. Notting Hill is full of both hilarity and moving moments that make it one of the most successfully done Rom-Coms I've seen.
Cheesy but fun, great to stick on while with a friend or something. Not a fan of some of the plot but it has charm + Julia Roberts.
A classic 90s rom-com
