Obvious Child Reviews
nah bad acting dumb plot
Unsatisfying. They stretched a 23 minute short to an 83 minute movie without really adding much.
A touching and at times nuanced look at what is a difficult issue. While far from perfect it is entertaining.
Lousy, slow.nothing really happens except for a few disgusitng jokes on farting, etc
Funny,reaĺ,odd romance,whimsical.
Anybody wandering into Obvious Child expecting a frothy rom-com is going to be bitterly disappointed. Yes, there's a romance, but it's not the driving point of the movie. Yes, there's some humor, but this is not a comedy. After comedian Donna Stern (Jenny Slate) is dumped by her boyfriend, she engages in an alcohol-fueled one-night stand with Max (Jake Lacy), a buttoned-down game developer she meets in a bar. When she discovers that she is pregnant, she knows that her only option is an abortion. Your view on abortion will greatly impact on how you react to Obvious Child, make no mistake. Despite the divisive nature of the film, it feels genuine. The performances feel natural, the relationships feel real, and Donna's reaction to her problem is genuine. However, the viewer's reaction to the movie will greatly depend on which side of the abortion issue he or she is on.
This was a genuinely touching movie, and perhaps more important viewing in a post Roe V. Wade United States.
I found it stupid and silly and a total waste of time to watch it, it's no wonder why there are so many abortions happening this day and time if you don't want to get pregnant get on the pill use your brain God gave you protect yourself always and if your just going to get drunk and have sex do yourself a favor keep your legs shut the number of abortions that are done in this country alone are staggering so please ladies and very young ladies don't leave it to the guy to have protection like I said before always protect yourself and stop killing babies because you were stupid and let some guy have sex with you RESPECT yourself do better please!!
Only for those who think that one long boring movie of a hour and a half worth of adolescent jokes of bathroom and bodily function remarks passes as humor and romance. The final irony was that I agree with a woman's right to choose and watched this the day after the leaking of the Supreme Court perverted decision to take that right away after having had it for half a century. But there is nothing here to support that right to choose seriously, so any message this film might have had is lost. It was a waste of time!
The title was apt - that girl was truly an obvious child. Not funny. Humor relied mainly on GI disturbances and potty jokes. Disturbing. Three women in this movie - basically every female character onscreen for more than 30 seconds - was promoting abortion, aka had one. Not even a hint of any other viewpoint or experience. People of means and with some obvious mutual rapport throwing away a life and making jokes about it. Disgusting and sad.
Obvious Child is an okay film. It is about a twenty-something comedienne's unplanned pregnancy that forces her to confront the realities of independent womanhood for the first time. Jenny Slate and Gaby Hoffman give decent performances. The screenplay is a little slow in places. Gillian Robespierre did an alright job directing this movie. I liked this motion picture because of the humor and romance.
Not the most original premise, yet still feels honest and authentic, but in a way that has almost become expected in an indie rom com. 6.5/10
Well-acted and tastefully made, regarding the sensitive subject at the core of the protagonist's problem, Obvious Child is a true alternative romantic-comedy, complete with sharp dialogue and relatable awkward moments.
Senseless movie, portrayed murder of innocence as a lighthearted and normal thing to do. Again, the left trying to normalise abuse and murder through placing a love story over the top.
What were the critics watching because i didn’t see a 90% approval. This is a movie that traps you and you end up watching the whole thing wondering what the hell did i just watch. Genre is Dark Comedy, The only funny part of this whole movie was the critics reviews because we must be watching two completely different movies.
Great story, great characters. Usually I would hate a movie with a character like Jenny, not usually my cup of tea, but they really pulled it off and left me feeling somewhat fulfilled. The ending seemed a little open and they could've dragged on another two hours but I'm glad they didn't.
I was mostly pleasantly surprised with this movie. Jenny Slate sells this film and the overall tone is lovable, I just wish it were more original and that the humor wasn't so hit-or-miss. 6.5/10
