Ocean's Eleven Reviews

Mar 14, 2025

With the Rat Pack as the main actors, it sure is a cool and charming piece of entertainment. However, the poor pacing and a feeble script make it feel overlong it's 127 minutes runtime.

As a fan of Clooney's Dany Ocean movies, I decided to watch the original. While it boasts a cast of impressive names, most of whom are singers instead of actors for some reason, it's clear that this is one of the rare instances where the remake outranks the original. The heist plays out in the most lackluster way, and the ending is a major disappointment.

Excellent entertainment. Stands up to the remake. Nice period color photography. And songs of the era having Sinatra, Martin and Sammy Davis Jr on staff. Unexpected ending completes the package.

Oceans 11 is a smooth and easy 1960s heist film. The ending may disappoint some, but l find the whole movie to a pleasantly simple and satisfying piece of old Hollywood.

The original "Ocean's" film is slick, but not as smooth as it should be. On its most basic, fundamental level is the classic star power of its three singer/actors, Davis Jr., Sinatra, and Martin. Unfortunately, this level turns out to be the entirety of the basis of the movie, and the film suffers this Achilles Heel from minute one. For some people, however, the magnetism of seeing Dean Martin perform "Ain't That a Kick in the Head", and Frank Sinatra pacing (that's almost all he does in the film) just might be enough to view this overlong caper (127 minutes, a stretch even at that) which seems fit to dwell in the purgatory of 60's trying-to-be-classic movies.

It's just ok enough. The main problems is for most of the runtime the editing isn't that good and the pacing is just tolerable enough. I couldn't tell you for half the runtime who the main character was or what these guys were even doing until 50 minutes in because it jumps around so much explaining why each guys motivation is for doing the heist but it just forgets about most of them except 4 or so afterwards. This is a RARE case where the 2001 remake nailed it by having Danny be the main focus every single time he interacted with any group member. This doesn't do that. It spends so much time showing the members getting together that the actual robbery and main heist plot is only half the film and the heist also is very jumpy and really quick also with very poor leadup. The last 30 minutes are the best part because its more focused on dealing with the aftermath of the heist and the ending is kind of clever. It doesn't do a good job really at building anticipation for the heist because its too simple how they do it really and doesn't justify all the buildup. The one saving grace is there is always something keeping you engaged enough. The cinematography is solid with Vegas being a memorable location and good camerawork/framing. The music is good also especially the title song but the rest is kind of generic. The acting is decent also with the Rat Pack & Lawford being the standouts with solid performances but the rest just kind of blend in and are forgotten about. This is something the 2001 version did much better by giving witty dialogue, humor and memorable personas with a all star cast. Unless your a die hard Rat Pack fan there really isn't any reason to watch this over the 2001 remake. Shirley MacLaine has a small role in this so maybe that but otherwise skip it.

Despite having an extraordinary cast helmed by the infamous rat pack. "Oceans Eleven" manages to get weighed down by a clunky plot and poor editing that drags on far too long. For all its shortcomings the film still manages to squeak out a few interesting and fun parts that it's not a complete waste.

A movie that had terrible passing setting up the plot, but when we get the plot the movie becomes very good.

A time-capsule from Sinatra's Vegas.

Sinatra and his Rat Pack had a good time making the movie and double-dipping in the Copa Room at the Sands Motel. The movie they made shows just how busy and distracted they must have been.

This started off as a very interesting viewing experience as I'd been wanting to see Sinatra and Dean act in something after having heard both their names a dozen times while reading about other movies. I had the 2001 remake on my watchlist but was more excited to see this in advance of the other as I was sure it would be good if it inspired a remake by an A-list director like Soderbergh. Instead it turns out that Soderbergh did what everyone wished Hollywood always did and took a good premise from a poorly-made older movie and made it far better rather than taking a classic and doing worse. By the end of the incredibly long exposition phase of this movie I found myself deeply uninterested and looking at my phone instead of the 온라인카지노추천 screen. The way they described the heist was good as they talked it up as impossible and their plan was satisfyingly complex, but the resulting action on the screen was shockingly subdued. They never seemed to face any real difficulty and neither did the fellow at the end who figured out who did it and where they were located in the span of a ~5-minute conversation. They played Duke up like he was the primary antagonist but then never overcame or even confronted him. The way the ending played out didn't feel at all believable either. The highlight for me was the singing -- their "Ain't That a Kick in the Head" song has stuck with me in the week or so since I watched this.

The Rat Pack are fun to watch but overall the plot is meh.

Uneven and surprisingly sad, like the remake it seems like it was made for a paycheck.

Not nearly as fun or clever as the remake. If you're a Ratpack fan, you'll have fun seeing these guys riff off one another, but it's a fairly lazy heist flick. Cesar Romero is fun in it though, and I really dig the somber ending.

While the film definitely hasn’t aged well, I can over look it’s flaws because the actors are so damn charming. Is it sexist? Yes. But it was a different time and it’s kept to a minimum. The Rat Pack are so charming and Cesar Romero makes this way better. It just makes feel the 1960s nostalgia.

I enjoyed this very much. There is a certain archaic pomposity about it, but what I really liked was seeing the classic "rat pack" in this original film. I can only imagine it rubs wrong the woke people of today. I enjoyed seeing the acting chops of Sinatra, Martin, and Sammy Davis Jr. There was a neat editing style for a movie made in 1960. I enjoyed that men were men in this movie and there was no annoying contemporary social agenda. This was better than the remake by far and I could see sitting through it again one day. The lighting could have been a little more creative/dramatic.

They could have cut out a hour of the movie because it is just boring nonsense. They could have put the plot and character development in the last hour and thirty minutes like normal movies. It yeah the first half isn't worth waisting time on. It's probably like 80% singing and dancing and the rest acting. I got the feeling it was just the studios making profit off of the stars hit singles.

SEXIST! STRIPPERS! MISOGYNY! This is the worst old movie I have watched. Each and every woman is scantily dressed. There are strippers and many clubs where all the women are barely dressed are treated and talked to as sexual objects. The misogyny and sexism runs ramped in this awful 'classic'. Even the women treat the other women as pawns. HORRIBLE!

The rat pack make telephone calls and Sammy Davis and Dean Martin sing bad songs.

The best thing about this flick is the SC온라인카지노추천 send-up, "Maudlin's Eleven". It's on youtube.
