Old Henry Reviews
A short, well-written western with a main character, who feels a little like the old days of great westerns.
I thought it was taught and intriguing at first, but the shoot-out was really stupid. Confronting 6 or 7 men with guns in the open and threatening them. That last shootout, running away from the guy and shooting wildly. A 6 year old could have told him to stop, stand behind a tree and aim.
this movie is a bit dull. I was disappointed. A bit too formulaic and slow.
I was a little disappointed given the 90%+ ratings from RT. The fairly well-known circumstances of Billy the Kid's death belies the Movie's ending.
Potsy Ponciroli wrote and directed this western movie. Tim Blake Nelson, my favourite actor, plays the title role. The story is about Henry, an elderly farmer who lives with his teenage son on a farm. Henry's wife has been deceased for 10 years, and her tomb is also on the field. His brother-in-law lives miles away. One day, Henry comes across a wounded guy with a pistol and a stash full of money. At first, he intends to abandon the money and the injured man, but then he chooses to bring them home and attend to his injuries. Meanwhile, the chase party is relentlessly searching for the injured guy and cash cache. But no one knows Henry's history as a famed gunman. The film is based on the famed figure Billy the Kid from the Old West. Blake prepared for his role by studying and practicing handling a gun and as a farmer. I've always loved Tim Blake Nelson's movies, and the substance in them is usually entertaining. The film's plot is crisp and riveting from the outset. I cherish stories that reveal the character's concealed background exploding with storm and rage. I'm delighted I found this film after not having seen any Blake films in a long time.
Pretty standard B-grade Netflix movie. Mildly entertaining but far from amazing. Wouldn't watch it again.
Beautiful movie. Old Henry has become one of my favorite westerns. The plot is very well developed, and the character development is good. It has some historical tie-ins as well to make it even more interesting. The acting is exceptional as well. If you like this movie then I would recommend 3:10 to Yuma also.
Great western with a nice twist of an ending. Really cool cowboy movie that fans of the genre will enjoy.
A good quiet solid easy watch. The kid ain't he a real pain.
Tim Blake Nelson makes this movie what it is. This gritty, thoughtful film about a father trying to protect and raise his son by hiding his dark past is entertaining and will keep you watching. Great acting all around and a fun way to spend a few hours. Tim Blake Nelson is a fabulous and what I feel a very underrated actor.
A tight movie that moves quickly and with purpose. I thought it was excellent.
Great script, acting and cinematography. Perhaps one of the top westerns I’ve seen. Absolutely recommend.
Nelson is such a captavating actor it is easy to watch him unravel his charechter in this great slow moving western tale. The critics who gave this a bad review are simply insane and probably have a short attention span. well worth the watch. Iviewed after Sam Morril recomended it to mark normand on his podcast.
Fantastic movie proper western with a great cast
Pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed this movie. Simple with a nice surprise ending. Bravo!
This really is a must see modern western. It’s simple and relatively low budget yet very entertaining and ticks all the boxes of a great western. There is a great surprise twist as well to top it all off. Don’t miss..
Great western with great acting!
What a great twist. Did not see it coming. Really enjoyed it from start to finish
This Western is highly underrated by the majority of critics of this genre and i belief it deserves high praise. The story is superb and is backed up with acting of the highest calibre, the music totally compliments the film and the cinematography is excellent. Even if you are not a Western fan, i belief the quality of this production would be thoroughly enjoyed. It is in my opinion one of the top Westerns made and cannot understand why it only grossed U.S.$42000.
Very good sleeper with good acting and story
