Paradise: Hope Reviews
Though the style of filming is an acquired taste (that I do not necessarily have), there is no doubting the skill of the film-maker and the sincerity of his desire to show the darkest side of love and passion. Easily the most successful of the trilogy, for me, it shows a very different side of the potentially disastrous adult-child sexual attraction trope, one that I would suggest has never been seen before and may never be seen again, which makes it worth investigating for that alone. Ultimately what is astonishing about the film is how it engages you on the side of the potential child molester and leaves you at the end feeling a little sorry for him.
Seidl's movie is very interesting, not to mention the amazing shots and angles. He has that in every single one of the trilogy movie. He makes you see everything in a more poetic way.
The last of the Paradise trilogy and all three were amazing. The filming, narrative and editing is so real you marvel at Ulrich Seidl's insight into people. For me the meaning of the trilogy is about the problems and suffering brought about by being human and the more human or feeling and caring you are the greater the suffering. But they persist on. They abide. We all abide.

Quite endearing, if at times icky, coming-of-age story set in an adolescent fat camp. The acting and cinematography are superb as it is throughout the Seidl trilogy.
The dialogue and interaction between characters seemed very natural. However, the progression of the story felt somewhat static. The ending of the movie just made me feel lost and confused - and if that was Seidi was aiming for, then they perfectly captured that.
I was surpried that Ulrich Seidi used a fun and less controversial way to conclude the trilogy. I enjoyed it.
Fine naturalistic dialog. Many implications of danger and risk. But overall a much gentler movie than the rest of the trilogy which does, indeed, hold out a more hopeful view of the human race.
The last one of the trilogy and it's just as minimalistic and embarassing as the first two. This time everything is going down at a fat camp for kids. Mostly we follow the thirteen year old girl that got a crush on her much older doctor. This is embarassing and unpleasent stuff, it's got that nasty look with sexual undertones. I do love the staticness and the bleak use of color, it's visually good - just like the others. Not as graphic, but it will make your gut wrench a bit. Still I felt it was the poorest effort of the series. Plotwise they are all different but they stick with their looser-vibe around the themes that the titles expose. Extreme versions of humans in an alternative and pitiful settings. An all right film that's not for everyone. This is anything but entertainment. 6.5 out of 10 fat kids with nordic walking poles.
I understand why critics would like this film, but it isn't really my cup of tea. I have no doubt that it accurately portrays what many contemporary Austrian teens do, say, and think, and that the portrayal of the creepy adults is highly plausible. I suppose that makes the film informative, but that doesn't mean watching these characters is interesting or fun.
Interesting and really good film. Actually, the best of the trilogy. Adored the script and the story. Nice performances.
gezien 16/11 oosterwolde. Mooie afsluiting van deze trilogie. Blijkbaar gaan in oostenrijk de drie-eenheod geloof, hoop en liefde in een andere volgorde.
Like Ulrich Seidl's previous ventures, this is not a comfortable film to watch. At the center of the plot is a queasy relationship between a 40-year-old diet camp doctor and an overweight 13-year-old. Although you might think its pedophilic setup will make you squirm in your seat, the usually-caustic Seidl manages to coax a sympathetic performance from Melanie Lenz. Thereby, painting a moving portrait of forbidden love.
The final part of the Paradise Trilogy is as sensitive as it is sad; the story of a true first and unrequited love is pitched perfectly & holds up well against the other two movies.
