Don't be fooled by negative reviews this movie is one of Macaulay Culkin's best. How he transforms into the Michael Aligs character showcases Macaulay Culkin's creative in-depth and personal acting skills to a new level. The music soundtrack to this movie is exceptional and still holds true 20 years later. From the over the top costumes to Seth Green and Culkins' acting abilities and skills this movie is a must see especially for those that remember the club scene of the 1980s and 1990s and club kids themselves. This movie is provocative in depth and has a sexiness about it. Culkin truly transforms himself into the Michael Allen character from the mannerisms The voice the style is spot on. I can't tell you enough how this movie is truly one of my top five favorite movies of all time. If you're a Midwest gay boy lost and yearning for the big City club and party life you don't want to miss this movie. If you were fortunate enough to live and survive that lifestyle this movie will bring back memories both good and bad. It's been 20 years since this movie has come out I wish Macaulay Culkin would have put out as many movies let's say as Leonardo DiCaprio has he truly is an equal talent I would say even more so.

Virtually nothing of consequence happens in this movie. It's basically just an hour-and-a-half showcase of people being vane, doing excessive amounts of drugs, wearing bizarre costumes, and competing for the "world's least humane person" award. And don't get me wrong, those characteristics can be entertaining... but there's no ultimate point to it here. There's no self-examination, no revelation, no evolution, no redemption or fall from grace. The characters just basically do stuff until too many people (or themselves) get hurt, are forced to stop, and don't learn anything from it. It's like watching someone's pet dog (who's in an elaborate costume) continuously shit in the house (even though you know the owner's attempted many times to teach the dog not to), and then at the end of the movie the dog's given away... but you know he's still out there shitting someplace he shouldn't. I will say, however, that Seth Green was very good in the movie. I love seeing actors act outside their generally typecast roles, and Mr. Green did a good job of being... whatever the hell he was supposed to be in this movie.

The greatest 01 hour: and 38 minutes based on a true story about the end of a drug user and his friend and their party, starring Seth Green, and Macaulay Culkin!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tedious, silly, and disappointing. For a much grander vision/version of this beyond belief story read the book of the same name. Culkin and Green are terrible in this.

Despite the bad reviews, I enjoyed this film. Was interesting to look in to it's background and this time. Very unique and unusual, it's original, I'll give it that.

Well done docudrama on a wacko era in the NYC club scene. It was a very well done low budget project that worked. The movie focus on the excess of the lifestyle and Caulkin did an excellent job of playing Alig, Green I thought was a little over the top in his role. Lyonne did a good job playing the real real outcast, Sevigney was just there. just as Gaiten says "does she speak" Alig "only when I let her" Gaiten "where do I get one". So true, .[ I went to the Limelight a quite a few times & it was weird. Alig did create a wild mix as guys in suites, the club kids, the "guido's" jersey shore typesi from the Island, post punks, etc. it worked. It wasn't like Shout which was mostly after work crowd or Rascals which was Shout at a later time of night or the befallling Ritz & Peppermint Lounge of 80's Anti disco era].

I thought it was great! I saw it back in 2003, and again just now. It was so good that I watched it again the very next day. The roles were brave, and the story is epic. Most of the acting seemed good except, there were some lines that came out sounding ingenuine, not sure if for bad acting or for assuming character who is disingenuous to begin with. Either way, I see this as a feel good movie, reminding us to have fun and pursue our dreams, no matter how far fetched. A true gem. The only thing that made me sad, besides how Freeze over-reacted by killing Angel with the hammer (couldn't you just break up the fight without killing one of them?) was the fact I didn't make it to Limelight until it had changed to Avalon, which just wasn't the same. This movie makes me feel nostalgic of my party days, longing for a return to it someday. Anyone got any K? Lol.

Trash. Culkin and Green over acted so badly, I almost believed it was intentional. No one is that flamboyant and over the top in reality...even on the streets of NYC. They took the element of surprise out of the club kids and made it look normal in NYC; it was NEVER like that. The facts are tossed out the window and re written for a mediocre plot line. The documentary is ten times more enjoyable. DON'T BOTHER with this mess.

Flamboyant and fun. Good true story about New York club life in the 80's. will watch again.

One of my favorite cult classic next to A Clockwork Orange, kinda dark yet still satirizes behaviorism. It was done beautifully. Seth Green and Macaulay Culkin really nailed it! Party Monster is seriously underrated.

I thought Culkin did pretty well, it was such a 'bad' movie that it became captivating, I hope that was the point. Alig in real life was slightly off putting so either this movie is creative or try hard ? i have no idea but i liked it

So cheesy! The acting was offensive; both because it was bad, and because of certain straight guys stereotyping gay people. i feel like Seth Green heard he was playing a gay character and just put together the first flamoyant, ignorant and gay characteristics that came to his head without even studying who he was portraying. If he did study his character before, then thats even sadder! what are you portraying... a glittery nymph elf frolicking in the forrest? Because thats what you sound and look like. And what is with those accents? Neither James St. James nor Michael Alig talk like that. just because they're gay they have weird English/posh accents? He's from Indiana! I wonder if he knew that when they told him he was portraying someone gay, they meant the homosexual kind of gay... NOT the derogatory "gay" term used to describe annoying POS douchebags and things people don't like. Watch the "shockumentary" instead. At least it's genuine and interesting. Or if you have to watch this, dont go into it thinking about how its based on a true story. You'll be disappointed. Think of it on the same level of amusement and as realistic as peewee's playhouse.

Such a sad story. The acting was hit and miss. I feel there was so much potential to this film that didn't quite make it.

May 22, 2015

I strongly disagree with critics' take on this film. It is a rightfully dark and twisted film featuring some exceptional performances. Interestingly, Marilyn Manson who is very funny. And, maybe, that is why this film upsets people. At it's core it is a satirical look at a very tragic true story. Being a good movie does not require it to be "tasteful" -- the tragedy and crime are made all the more horrid by the way the actual people are played in the film.

I feel that Macaulay Culkin is miscast, requiring too much suspension of disbelief. Rather like the drug-caning "party animals" it features, the whole thing increasingly descends into an unstructured mess.
