Patti Cake$ Reviews
Ever since I saw this film I have been a BIG fan of Mcdonald. I think she will be a real star one day. I hope so! She is so good in this movie. Love the trio and was really excited about the story! 5 Stars!
Underwhelming. Fell flat for me.
This film made me think of Precious - I suppose as its about a somewhat outcast adolescent/teenager dreaming of better things, getting by with a depressingly bleak urban domestic situation. There's obviously a heavy use of beatboxing and rap/hip hop type music present throughout (this is somewhat of a rap style musical, of sorts). I guess its about self expression, to an extent. It's aan entertaining enough watch, with some amusing scenes and some sobering ones, its quirky and worth a watch, yes.
Great fantastic phenomenal heart warming movie starring some great actors that I want to see more of. This movie is legit amazing and everyone I wanted right now at this particular moment in time. The rapping and all the beats in this movie are amazing and I would legit listen to these songs in the car driving. I love the story of Patti cakes and all her ups and downs. Great time.
Loved this movie. Bridgett Everett is everything
The music will have you singing along with the very first song, ameatur beats but smooth lyrics. The underdog story gets a fresh take in this movie, the acting is so raw and believable. I will watch this film again and again, it is truly a feel good film.
while not real the story is raw in all the right ways. great diverse cast. Defiantly different. This film is cut well, acted great, and has its own delicious flavor to set it apart.

This is the kind of movie that makes you care about the lead with your whole heart and want to call people to tell them about it after the end credits. The music is a unique blend of modern rap and classic rock, that feels very fresh. The characters practically glow neon among to grey impoverished setting. Bridget Everett is electrifying, but the lead draws you in with her heart and resilience in a seemingly hopeless struggle to be celebrated. The grand finale isn't the type you'd expect and yet still had me Bursting with glee. Loved loved loved This movie!
An inspiring underdog story anchored in the phenomenal performance of Danielle Macdonald. Patti Cake$ is an original, fresh take on a tale we've seen told too many times before. Jasper got a kick out of both the drama of it all and the raping.
I've got to be honest, this wouldn't be the kind of movie that I'd usually go for. I'm really not a fan of rap music and the cutesy write-ups this film had got would normally make me move on. However, being with a couple of friends who wanted to watch it, I settled down and thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. It's a fairly predictable underdog story of an unlikely heroine who battles against the odds to make a bid for fame and fortune. Danielle MacDonald is spellbinding as Patti, the New Jersey wannabe rapper who gathers round her an unlikely crew to enter a local open mic competition. Patti has little going for her, she's in a dead-end job, has a disillusioned and alcoholic mother, lives in the wrong part of town, is overweight and a woman in the masculine world of rap. Yet, despite the knockmbacks and misogyny she faces, she stands her ground and pulls through. It's true there are few surprises in the way that the plot unfolds but as a feel good, rags-to-riches tale, Patti Cake$ is a real delight.
Very good movie. Though it features many familiar formula points for its genre combos, it takes all of the best elements from similar films 8 Mile, Hustle & Flow and Little Miss Sunshine and adds some fresh elements to craft a funny, unique and wildly entertaining indie that features great direction and a phenomenal performance from MacDonald.
saw this movie on demand tonight, what a great story, well acted. hopes and dreams and how to not give up on reaching for them
