Pete's Dragon Reviews
I'm hard pressed to think of a wise Disney movie or any movie for that matter. Way too long. Unmemorable songs. Perhaps as a shorter movie it could be 2 stars, but as-is it's zero. My wife is a die hard Disney fan, along with our 2 children, and none of them liked it either.
This movie provides an opening to your inner child's imagination. This classic is absolutely beautiful and heart warming. It allows you to close your eyes and take a walk with Petey and his dragon Elliot. I'll always hold a special place in my heart for this classic.
Shelley Winters, Helen Reddy and Mickey Rooney?? Yes, please! A childhood favorite. 😍💯
It's alright, 1 memorable tune but the cast overall wasn't to my liking. I liked the location.
Inmensamente encantadora!
So cute, even my cynical daughter liked it. Good old days with fun sing along lyrics.
I see a lot of 1 and 2 star reviews for this movie and to me that’s just ridiculous. Go watch “Santa with Muscles” if you truly want to watch a 1 star film. I watch a lot of films, especially bad ones, this isn’t one of them. As an adult this is a 3 star film, but based on how much my 2 year old absolutely adores it, it’s 4 stars. I personally like the musical numbers. “Bill of Sale” and “Candle on the Water” (which got a nomination for best original song) are standouts. The story isn’t anything special, but it doesn’t have to be. Remember, it’s a kids movie about an animated dragon that turns invisible. Not exactly “Inception” here folks. My biggest criticisms are the length, it’s too long. Elliot isn’t in it enough, but I know Disney wasn’t exactly going through record profits back in the late 70s so it’s likely the budget didn’t allow for it. The slower pace I guess is a problem(?), but mostly if you’re used to watching a lot of modern movies which love to push push push. Older films are slower paced. Listen folks, like I said I watch a lot of films that are very bad to keep up with my favorite bad movie podcast. This isn’t one of those films. Once you watch movies like “Santa with Muscles” or “Wagons East” or “Dragon Wars”, you’ll start to have an appreciation for films that are obviously better, but still not in the “great” category. I recommend this film. But remember it’s a musical. It’s slower paced and it’s lengthy. It’s also during a time when Disney was struggling. I know that seems wild in 2024, but back then, yes they weren’t doing so hot. And remember most of all, it’s for kids, like my 2 year old.
I saw this movie at the drive in theater when I was a kid and loved it then and it's still a favorite. My kids have grown up watching it too. Helen Reddy has such a beautiful voice. Great musical! Disney needs to go back to this kind of story telling.
I had a hard time watching this movie. Because at first these long musical credits seem to have ended, but thieves appear who start singing, and it ends again, but then a guy appears who also starts singing. Due to the huge number of songs, your ears will just want to curl up in a tube. The only interesting character is Elliot the dragon. Who does not talk, does not sing, but only purrs sweetly and plays tic-tac-toe, cutie in one word.
I enjoy this movie and its musical numbers. Nostalgia thy vision is rose colored. When younger, I couldn't stand the Gogan family and Dr. Terminus. Jim Dale was incredible in the role. I have grown to appreciate his performance as an adult.
This Movie Sucks and Feels like too low detailed tailed for a feature film this is when Disney has a terrible effort. 🖕🤬
A fun musical for kids. My son loves this movie, and I grew up liking it as well.
Best Kids movie ever, nothing comes close to it
It's an extremely underrated family movie. Charming and sweet, with catchy songs and lovable characters, Pete's Dragon is a tale of faith, friendship and inclusivity.
The interaction of people and animation is surprisingly good, but the movie itself falls flat. The biggest problem is the songs, which are forgettable, which is not a great feature for a musical. The story is good and there's a sweetness to the proceedings, but also a combination of predictability and noisy chaos that will make this better viewing for kids than for parents. The message about finding love and security in a crazy world is a good one, and children will find this an entertaining and enjoyable viewing experience.
The story of an orphaned kid and his best friend, a dragon named Elliot. Overall the story is good and kept me engaged throughout. I remember watching this movie on repeat when I was little. The acting is mediocre at best, with the exception of Mickey Rooney who does an amazing job as usual. The villain actors also did a good job playing over the top villains. The special effects don't hold up to today's standards. I know that is tough when comparing a movie from the 70's, but Elliot is animated and you can really tell that he doesn't belong in the environment they put him in (See Who Framed Roger Rabbit for a better example). A name that stood out to me from the opening credits was Don Bluth who was the animation director. You can see his influence in Elliot's animation. He eventually would leave Disney and create animated classics like An American Tail and Anastasia. This is a full musical as well and the music is O.K. "Candle on the Water", "I Saw a Dragon" and "Bill of Sale" are standouts for me. I love "Candle" and it was nominated for best original song. "Bill of Sale" was stuck in my head for a couple hours after the end of the movie. Definitely a movie worth checking out.
Not very rewatchable as an adult. But I definitely loved it as a child. And PC wise it still holds up as well.
I juste love all the Songs and the storyline I thought it was innovative , it was an amazing movie to watch , I have seen it as a kid and I today I still adore it ! I will surely show it to my future kids !!
Pete deserved to be loved and he was!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
