Pete's Dragon Reviews
This movie was literally the highlight of 2016 for me. Pete's Dragon, The Jungle Book, and Monster Trucks are three films I remember watching and genuinely enjoying that year, and they bring back awesome memories for me. This reimagining of Pete's Dragon is a big upgrade from the goofy-styled musical original, and it was very fun to see when it was on the big screen. Worth watching and re-watching over and over again.
In my opinion, the 1977 film is far superior. I didn't enjoy this version at all.
Pete's Dragon is an absolute joy to watch! The story is simple yet full of joy, heartbreak, and wonder. It's an "in the feels" feel-good movie that's a must see with the family!
The LAST great film by disney. A fresh exhilarating take on the classic that feels genuine. Great family movie! Disney has since forgotten how to make movies like this.
Pete's Dragon is a beautiful new take on a beloved film.
Arguably one of the best live action Disney movies
The only great Disney remake.
Arguably the best live-action Disney remake to date, David Lowery's take on Pete's Dragon is a heartfelt, beautiful and wondrous adventure anyone can enjoy.
Watched this as a kid, it was so good and made me cry if I might be honest. Maybe it’s just because I haven’t seen it in a long time and forgot most of it, but it was incredible.
Still need to finish it, but I loved it and it gave me all the Narnia vibes. Disney at its best, can't believe I missed this one
A modern interpretation of the 1977 Disney film about an orphaned boy and his best friend, a dragon named Elliot. This film lacks the heart of the original. I understand the decision to not make this film a musical. The acting is fine from all involved. But they failed to create a true connection between the audience and Pete or Elliot. So, by the end of the film, I didn’t care how it turned out. The animal “sounds” that Elliot makes throughout the movie became annoying to me after a while. I’m assuming they are a combination of dog, horse and maybe elephant, but they became too repetitive. If you’re curious check this film out.
One of the few underrated from the house of mouse.
Fantastic family movie, miles above the original, practically perfect on every level, except for the villainous brother.
Given how bad the original was, this remake should be a disaster and yet it's not only enjoyable but manages to find moments of beauty. With the exception of the ending, it's one of the few Disney movies that feels like it has a sense of authorship from it's director.
Great kid movie. Great story line and telling. The dragon look amazing and real. But a twist on a kind of trazon movie
While it's nothing special, the "Pete's Dragon" remake is lighthearted fun for families to enjoy.
The greatest 01 hour: and 43 minutes ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It was sad but the movie was great I loved it
The first live action film that captured my son's attention, imagination, wonder, and emotion. And I was right there with him, a child again. Beautifully done.
Oh, you want to be the child protagonist of a Disney movie? I'm afraid your parents are gonna have to die then. The most unique aspect about Pete's Dragon is that the dragon is furry; he looks like a giant stuffed animal. Beyond that, the plot is about what you'd expect from a standard Disney family film; it doesn't take too many dangerous leaps but feels very tender and sweet. Nobody in this film is shown to be legitimately evil, just mostly misguided in the moment; even Karl Urban as the main villain gets a bit of a redemption arc where he chooses family over some vague idea of trading in his log mill to apparently become a dragon tamer. Likewise, there aren't very many difficult choices to be made, the conflict is pretty cut and dry but the film trades more consistently on personal bonds and the pain of loss. Not necessarily an instant classic, but well-made and with a property that was sufficiently forgotten as to not draw the contempt of everyone who instantly rebels against Disney live-action remakes (of which this is probably the best). Even invisible, with the cost of real estate in the Pacific Northwest you know darn well this dragon ain't staying hidden for long. (3/5)
