Phone Booth Reviews

Mar 16, 2025

Collin Farrel totally nailed it with his outstanding acting skills and American accent. Kiefer Sutherland’s husky voice makes the film a whole lot more scarier. Forest Whitaker had a brilliant performance as well, along with the rest of the cast. The main plot was just great and the relentless suspense made it a whole lot better. Furthermore, the entire film was set in just one small location: a phone booth, yet, it was still epic. An immensely underrated psychological thriller, way better than 2002 standards. Joel Schumacher also deserves a great deal of phrase for directing this fantastic thriller. Collin Farrel is a very underrated yet superb actor, who deserves much more attention and respect. Such a good film and cast.

Perfect psychological thriller in confined space

I loved this movie. First of all, Collin's Stu is trying to have a good day, until he is blackmailed by a caller. All of a sudden, his wife Pam and a few key cops are brought in as leverage. It will keep you on the edge of your seat, waiting for the next moment. The VHS tape that I had was specially colored. I don't know what the significance of that is, but it's cool. I eventually got it again on VUDU. Forest, Pam, Katie, Richard, and Kiefer are key actors and actresses in this hit.

Wow, who would've thought Joel Schumacher could make a serious movie?? Kudos to him, this was quite something. Colin Farrell performed very well as always as well as Kiefer Sutherland, who made a great creepy character over the phone with his voice. The tension built and built throughout the film and the great thing about this movie is it’s simple, quick, easy to understand, and doesn’t waste much time! What a way to show how this time-period worked too (with phone booths just about to turn obsolete and to be replaced by the common use of flips phones, a subtle commentary on the shift in our culture and how we rely on communicating with others via technology). I enjoyed this movie, kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time!

The anticipation of getting to see Phone Booth in 2002 was much greater than the delivery, in 2003, on that anticipation.

"Phone Booth" starts off a bit slow in the first act, but it quickly picks up the pace and becomes more intense as it goes along. Colin Farrell and Forest Whitaker deliver fantastic performances that really bring the intensity to life. Kiefer Sutherland, who I know and love from 24, is chilling as the voice on the phone, adding a menacing layer even without much screen time. What’s also impressive is that the whole movie was shot in just 10 days, with two extra days for some additional shots. It’s amazing they created such a suspenseful film in such a short time. Overall, I really enjoyed it!

It's too bad because I like this movie. Great actors Including Kiefer Sutherland... By the way, god bless Donald Sutherland rest in peace. I know it's only a movie but problem with this movie is by the 45th minute They have the body of the strip club bouncer and it should be pretty easy to tell that he was shot by a high caliber Rifle and not some handgun.

Phone Booth would be a mediocre movie without the emotional acting of Colin Farrell. The story is simple. Except for the first and final 10 minutes it takes place in one phone booth. It's really hard to make an entertaining movie where everything happens in one small area. I think the creators of the movie did a fair job, but what carries the film is the actor of the protagonist. This is closest to The Whale in this regard. I think they did a fantastic job in the beginning showing us who this guy is and they made him likeable, even though he is a jerk. The antagonist says very important and truthful things, but in the end he makes a wrong decision and play god, which is incredibly obnoxious and wrong. What I don't like about the movie is that there were a few situations where he could have sold the problems, because he knew the antagonist couldn't have done anything to prevent it. This happened a few times and I was a little frustrated. I give all credit to Colin Farrell for liking Phone Booth.

Interesting, intriguing concept movie. I forget when or where I saw it, but I remember it was pretty good thriller. Whatever happened to phone booths, anyway?

A wandering hot mess about a who-cares-about character. Third grade ending. Really, third grade.

An amazing nail biting thriller with great performances from Farrell and a quite chilling Sutherland.

Who would've imagined that one phone call could have the potential to change your life?! Stu Shepherd is an arrogant man who is soon forced to bargain for his life when he's trapped in a phone booth with an experienced sniper on the other end of the line, forcing him to confront the sins of his life if he is to survive. A thriller that manages to make you rethink your life, we are left wondering what we would do if we were on the other end of a gun!

The movie is poorly directed. One star, reason why is that, The bullet angle are contradictory. . He shot from three different angles as though he was running around switching buildings. Then he said the round exploded upon impact but didn't destroy his ear. I think the movie director should have consult a professional when making the movie, it becomes difficult to watch when you know it's absolutely bs. It make us feel stupid to be entertained by movies this poorly researched and directed. So you end watching the movie to critique it. The he walks into the crime scene at the end? I know when the movie was made people back then were ignorant (don't want to be Rude) but which police department leaves a crime scene open like that for a man with a Case to walk through. Which ambulance service provide treatment at the scene and left a guy in the back unattended? It's not mass casualty situation where they are taking two T1 away. I know back then movies were just made regardless of how stupid the story was but come on who wrote that this?

Who knew a 90 minute film set within a phone box could be so thrilling? Well ladies and gentlemen here's 2002's 'Phone Booth'. SYNOPSIS: 'Publicist Stuart Shepard finds himself trapped in a phone booth, pinned down by an extortionist's sniper rifle. Unable to leave or receive outside help, Stuart's negotiation with the caller leads to a jaw-dropping climax.' This film proves you don't need to make a massive sprawling CGI laced adventure to create a totally enthralling movie. The film is a rollicking ride considering the limited set up and is carried by the excellent performances from Colin Farrell, and the hidden Kiefer Sutherland. The film has elements of the best Hitchcock movies and grabs you by the scruff of the neck and drags you along for the ride. It's one of director Joel Schumacher's best films. The nostalgia value of early 00's phones is also a lot of fun. 8/10

"Phone Booth" stands out as a well-crafted and suspenseful thriller that successfully utilizes its confined setting to deliver a gripping narrative. With strong performances from its lead actors and a thought-provoking exploration of morality, it remains a memorable and engaging film that keeps audiences on the edge of their seats. Very very good movie !!

Phone Booth might be short on running time, but it is high on intensity. With an introductory scene that seems like filler until the end, it is not long before the main action begins. Set in pretty much a single location, this film delivers everything that it needs to without engaging in very much action at all. This is the story of one man vs a sniper that sits as his conscience, making his life hell in the running time that is pretty much in keeping with the timescale of the story itself. Colin Farrell plays the role of the arrogant publicist very well, while Forest Whittaker plays the astute cop that sees things through to a tidy conclusion. That the film potentially sets itself up for a sequel is irrelevant, it is disturbing enough once you realise why. Kiefer Sutherland plays the role of the voice very well, adding to the tension. The weird thing about Phone Booth is that it felt very much longer than its running time. A film this short should never have been this satisfying.
