Piece By Piece Reviews
Very cute animation. Touching story about Pharell Williams. Great songs.
It was thanks to “Despicable Me 2” for blasting musician Pharrell Williams to household stardom we recognize today, then more in depth through this remarkably heartfelt brickfilm of unique vision with captured purity that pushes imaginative boundaries by faithful passion. Biographically, structurally routine just freshly filtered in wanting to entrap you to witness through unprecedented lens, whether a converted listener or not, to actually seek and feel its meaningful core as Williams reasonably envisioned with an inspiring life story as another general takeaway. (A-)
This is literally the best movie I have ever watched!! I will be honest though, the children might be disappointed 😔 It’s more aimed toward teenagers and adults. And there is some strong language.
it’s a unique experience and movie with its presentation and I loved the music! Good Time!
This movie is awesome! It has Snoop Dogg, Kendrick LaMar, and most important, Pharell Williams! It is basically Pharell's story told in Lego bricks. My favourite character is Pharell, because he made music for the world. My least favourite character is the cops because they were mean. My favourite part is when Pharell is a child listening to the music he loves, because it was filled with colour. My least favourite part is when the cops come running down the streets, because they're mean.
Piece By Piece is the absolute best biopic movie I have ever watched in my entire life. The idea of the movie being in Lego is genius and perfectly matches Pharrell Williams' personality.
Pharrell’s Lego movie is a nice documentary in Lego form. The Lego animation helps show how Pharrell felt, and is a great way of showing images of what he was saying. If you didn’t see it in theaters. It’s in digital
Though it was pulled early from theaters, I was glad to be one of the one’s who got to see it there. It was worth my money
Growing up I idolized Pharrell and to see him and hear his music in a Lego film is peak!
Love the story, but the pace of the movies was a little slow.
A fantastic story of one of the biggest influences in music through all their triumphs and failures. All told in a fascinating new medium that speaks to the true creativity of the individual.
Movie that enjoyed from start to finish, fun, and a message I loved.
I get why they'd make a movie like this using Lego -- it adds this magical, fantastical touch to the story and is easier to dramatize the events. But, it also has the downside of making it harder to connect with Pharrell's personal journey and distances you from the real people in his orbit over his career. The most glaring example of this is the middle section, where we’re told Pharrell went through a dark phase, letting his ego take over, focusing more on his brand and money than on music and the craft that got him there. However, it’s all super vague and indirect. We don’t really get a glimpse of what exactly he did or said that screams "ego era". In this way, the documentary lets him off the hook a bit. If the director had shown us more of Pharrell’s behaviors and how it affected the people around him and himself, maybe we’d feel like there was a real arc here. Instead, the low point feels sanitized, masked by Lego figurines and insinuations. But, Pharrell did make some absolute *hits* in the early 2000s, and those parts of the documentary were super fun to see.
Awesome movie! Love the soundtrack and the story is compelling.
This is a creative and interesting take on a documentary. However, this should NOT be rated as PG. there are multiple “s**t” words, and “what the h*ll”. This is not appropriate for young children and the rating is inappropriate for the content. I was shocked watching this with my kids and had to turn it off.
One of the best animated films of the decade
There's nothing bad that can be said about this movie. the music the story, it was just amazing.
I loved every second of it. I always knew Pharrell was an amazing artist. This captured everything and more!
The song written for the movie is great, the Lego animation was too level, Pharrell’s story is so inspiring and loved watching it.
Lego was an appropriate choice to bring this particular version of the Pharrell story to life as the whole thing came across as plastic, light and hollow. Blatantly his legacy and talent must contain a biography worth telling but the entire lack of depth in Piece by Piece leaves you wondering whether most of the Lego required to construct this tale got left in the box. Just for the music alone though it's worth a viewing, you'll just be none the wiser of who the real Pharrell is at it's conclusion.
