Plus One Reviews
Terrible, crass, no chemistry, made no sense why the characters would “fall” for each other. Boring, tired storyline, don’t waste your time. We quit with 50 minutes left
Now that is the kind of rom-coms I like, slightly miserable and funny and with Maya Erskine's lemony quirkiness. Jack Quaid is also good.
The friendship dynamics that leads to them getting involved is really spot on - but when it comes to their relationship, it feels like the writers dropped the ball as to what was making this duo click and work. Most of the actors are really good, the photography is nice. One of the problem of the movie is that it really lacks a woman's perspective when it comes to relationships, which makes for the usual problematic mix of a movie mainly targeted at female audiences blotted with male blind-spots everywhere. It's still more than watchable, even though the last act feels strained.
This movie’s pretty cute and funny, especially thanks to Maya Erskine. She’s great. The story's a bit reductionist in how it paints commitment issues as if they aren't the collection of many parts of self, but are simply "my parents got divorced so I'm afraid of getting divorced too." Sure, that's part of it, but we humans are far more complex than that. But yeah, it's a comedy, so it doesn't have to be much more than it was and it still feels authentic enough that it doesn’t drag the whole thing down. And of course there's the classic “white guy screws up, has immature views on love, then crawls back to win the girl” trope, but hey, it’s a rom-com, tropes abound. I'm coming down harder on it in this review than reflects my enjoyment of it; it does what it’s supposed to do. Cute and funny.
I did not like either of the main characters, so didn't really care whether they got together or not. The male protagonist was okay, and it might have worked with him and a different partner, but I didn't detect any chemistry between these two people. The female protagonist was supposed to be fun and eccentric, but I just saw her as rude, embarrassing, and unlikeable. Even when they were just hanging out and bantering, I didn't find their conversations interesting or funny, so lost interest in this movie very quickly.
A very good romantic comedy. Watched this after knowing Jack Quaid from The Boys. Had no clue he was Dennis' son. Will watch everything he's in from now on.
I could only stand it for about 1/2 hour. The female lead was awful and there was zero chemistry between the two. I like rom-coms, but this was terrible. Watch something else.
Plus One may follow the rom com formula— but it has the makings of quotable one liners, fantastic chemistry, and refreshing perspectives about love.
This is my favorite romcom ever now and one of my favorite movies. It all feels natural and real and you can see it evolve over time. Mix that in with a well executed soundtrack and its the perfect date movie.
Funny, heartwarming, great writing, and palpable chemistry between the stars.
Disappointed. Expected more. It was predictable, silly - not in a good way - and trying to hard. Could not like it or finish it.
the girl was fun, made me think at some points
A very good cast. Decent movie and story
Loved it. Really rooted for the leads. Underneath it all they were decent people and great to follow their journey
Predictable and silly, but a cute and easy watch
What a rom com should be. Funny writing and solid acting. I'm not usually a fan of the genre, but this is legitimately very good. (Being married probably increases chances of enjoyment, but the sentiment is positive regardless) it admittedly runs out of steam a bit towards the end, but soon jolts right back into laughs.
Wow. What a cliché. Puff piece. Shallow. Simplistic. Absolutely nothing new here. What's so cool is that it is so nicely done, it feels fresh. I hate rom-coms. I really liked this one, a lot. Taught me nothing. Hard not to like. I'm all in.
Leads had good chemistry... a bit cliche but the message at the end was good. Overall, a pretty solid and relatable rom com without the bells and whistles, as to say it was realistic, charming, and funny.
Has some good lines and scenes but the fatal flaw is that we never see why the guy likes the girl in the first place. It needed some flashback scenes or something where the audience sees how fun and nice she is - so we root for them to be together. As it was, I was thinking, why would he want to be with her?
We enjoyed this rom com so much, very sweet, great acting!
