Pokémon Heroes Reviews

[A] sunny, gentle action yarn with numbingly repetitive chase scenes and bouncy interludes of playtime.

| Apr 9, 2019

Pokémon Heroes features fewer gratuitous pokéfights than its precursors, and also lacks a dutifully over-repeated moral, but it doesn't replace these Pokémon staples with anything substantive.

| Apr 9, 2019

Below-average for series and too violent for younger kids.

| Original Score: 2/5 | Dec 27, 2010

We've seen it all before, and too many times.

| Original Score: 2/4 | Jun 10, 2003

Kids will revolt, parents will snooze, and I will be downright giddy if I never encounter another Pokmon movie as long as I live.

If you still have Pokmon fans at your house, I suppose there's no harm in taking them to see this movie; but with Pixar's Finding Nemo set to open in a couple of weeks, surely you can find something better to do this weekend.

The story is also less violent and combative.

| Original Score: 2/4 | May 16, 2003

The same old grab for the wallet.

| Original Score: 1/4 | May 16, 2003

Parents, only you can prevent another Pokemon.

| Original Score: 1/4 | May 16, 2003

Surely a form of child abuse.

Full Review | Original Score: 0/4 | May 16, 2003

This one's for kids and no one else.

A tedious, unimaginative affair.

| Original Score: 1/5 | May 16, 2003

It's one of those little ironies that as interest has flagged in the animated Pokmon movie franchise, the scripts have actually gotten better.

| Original Score: B | May 15, 2003

Having settled into a formula of maximum action and minimal whimsy for its battery of feature releases, the makers of Pokemon Heroes: Latios & Latias barely raise a ripple as they tread water in this fifth entry.

Grown-ups may have to scrub the sugar from their frontal lobes. But it's not about them, is it? Never was. Never will be.

Full Review | Original Score: 2/4 | May 15, 2003

The film's traditional cel animation seems to have reverted back to the lackluster standard of television-quality cartoons.

| Original Score: 1.5/4 | May 15, 2003

It looks cheap and feels slapped together.

| Original Score: 2/4 | May 15, 2003

The pied piper of shameless kiddie-marketing strikes for the fifth time in as many years.

| May 13, 2003

A reasonably entertaining entry that, thanks to its exotic setting and several new characters, should prove engaging for the small fry and not too painful for their adult chaperones.
