Pokémon the Movie 2000: The Power of One Reviews
For a pokémon movie, that's perfect. For an average film quality perspective still struggles.
While yes, it did have more action scenes than the last movie, it’s not really for me sense there is no messages or emotional moments in this one. Just like the next movie however……
This was one of my favourite childhood movie and still is for a Pokemon fan you have four great legendary Pokémon a must watch for Pokémon fans to see it's beginning as a franchise
Lacks the cool factor of Mewtwo but Lugia is still a formidable pokemon to feature in a movie. This is the last "classic" pokemon movie and overall has much better production look than the previous one. I'd recommend for any true Pokemon fan.
I love this one. The legendary birds and Lugia are cool. Good animation one of the better pokemon films.
I have massive nostalgia on this movie, i get why people don't like the Pokemon movies but i love this movie.
While not as bad as the first movie it still suffers from annoying characters, bland animation and voice acting and out of place pop songs, not awful but isn't great
The first two movies are my favorites. The drama, the excitement and the stakes have never been higher. It shows how strong the bond became between Ash and Misty since they first met and that pissed girl who was pissed off about a destroyed bike. Even Team Rocket gets a moment to shine and choose right. Overall, it has action, heart and comedy. A true must for Poké-fans.
I like Pikachu's Rescue Adventure better than The Power of One, because the short film is funnier than the movie!!!!!!!!!!! What the ****ing ****?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
) One of the best Pokémon movies Ancient pokemon tradition Scenario at the top! Appearance of 3 legendary birds and King Lugia
Honestly, I really enjoyed Pokémon The Movie 2000. It is a significant upgrade to the mediocre/bad first movie in terms of animation, humor and plot and despite some of its problems, I will not call this a bad movie. Yet again, the plot is about the well known trio visiting an island where three legendary Pokémon Birds have been awoken from their sleep and disturb the balance in the world. The one responsible for such events is some dude who wants to capture the three Pokémon as a way to control Lugia, the rarest and most powerful of all Pokémon, and abuse its powers. So it is once again up to Ash, The Chosen One, to restore the balance. The movie is as 2000-y as it can get and some blatant hints that back this statement are the songs (quite mediocre, too boring like the first movie's), the animation which is one of the strongest aspects of the film (it is quite an improvement over the first movie's worn out, bad quality) and its premise (I mean come on, pokemon were all the rage back then). But the fact that the movie is so old (old enough to drink) doesn't remove its nostalgia in the slightest. If I were asked why I own the movie, I would easily say because of nostalgia. It hits you like a train. The quality, the premise, the artwork, the soundtrack, the awe, the triumph, it is the part of someone's childhood out there and that's why I love it. I vaguely remember this film at my local video renting store and I would sometimes rent it, so you can say it shaped my childhood back then. Other than the nostalgia factor (cranked up to 10.000) the animation is crisp, clean and quite good for its time, with notable addition of 3D effects. The villain isn't as strong as Mewtwo, since he's there because there must be a villain. The action is spectacular, albeit a little tiring and dragging. The humor is a step up from the original, even if it is childish most of the time, and the dialogue has remained the same (the same goes for the characters). The soundtrack, apart from the heinous songs, is majestic and effective and the absence of a stupid, ludicrous message is compensated with thrills, fights and a good climax. Overall, Pokémon The Movie 2000 has characteristic premise, artwork, animation, music and action, though some problems are palpable. There is always room for improvement when it comes to character development, dialogue, humor, songs and those fricking abhorrent short films at the beginning of the film (please stop these). So the movie is much better than the first one (the Lugia is still the greatest of Pokémon) and I recommend the movie to fans of the franchise and most viewers (just learn the basics of the universe before watching the film), however if you are not familiar with the franchise (and don't want to) maybe you should stay away from this one.
Likely to entertain children, has its moments owing to weird directorial choices in the English dub, a story that could've worked and some okay fights but animation hiccups, lack of accessibility for people unfamiliar with the franchise (especially the anime) and a plot that hinges on its instigator being an idiot make The Movie 2000 strictly for Pokémon fans.
This movie is fantastic but, why is Brock only in one scene? Why is Tracy there? Anyway, the movie is unforgettable, adventures, some love and funny scenes, and legendary Pokemon including Zapdos, Lugia, and More. Save the Pokemon world.
Fails to do it's characters justice or find anything new in it's premise.
When we lived in Stanwood Washington, we would go to our local Hollywood Video to rent Pokemon 2000 the movie over and over again. We had so many options for any other film, however this film was Avengers Endgame for Pokemon fans bringing so many Pokemon into the mix, with the three birds and Lugia. On top of that it finally recognized Ash as somebody more than just a special trainer, this movie made him a CHOSEN ONE !.
Probably the largest Pokémon film event in United States from the classic era. This and the first film further fueled the fervor of children of that era for the plethora of pocket monsters. It's not a great film, and it could be argued that it's not even a good film. Still, I was one of those children, and I rate from personal experience.
The plot sucks and is frankly boring, but it makes up for it with some of the best humor in the Pokemon Movie franchise. Overall a passable movie experience.
