Gripping and moving. Beautiful movie.

A mesmerizing film about a Bolshoi-trained dancer who becomes enamored about contemporary dancing, and her move from Russia to France to train. She realizes that talent, hard work and determination doesn't always lead to success.

Absolutely gorgeous. So human, raw and soulful.

I am almost half way through the movie; at what point in the story does she get a personality?

Beautifully filmed, edited and acted. Not for viewers who want their hands held. You must be a lover of details and willing to learn. So gorgeous, I cried.

Brilliant Filmmaking, not for everyone.

Our group of five went to see "Polina" today. Be aware that most of the movie is shot with a hand held camera. The scenes are generally very short and the editing is abrupt. I am a dance professional and the dance scenes are very poorly filmed. Most of the time, you can only view the top half of the body. For a dancer, particularly in ballet, it is imperative that you can see the entire body. This was not done until last scene in the movie. We left the theater with headaches. The story and the dancing are certainly not strong enough to warrant a viewing. Skip it.

A deep view into how the development of an artist is is entwined with her development as a person, vulnerable to the world, daring to create from her experiences, and authoring her own life. The dance sequences are extraordinary.

The most completely engaging film that I've seen in at least a year: Personal sacrifice and the struggle for perfection in art.

Such an interesting premise to have a movie about contemporary dance made by a contemporary choreographer. The evolution of ballet, modern, and post-modern dance into a new art form backed by electronic music is elevated to the big screen in a feature film format. While not entirely successful, the movie deserves an audience for its willingness to address trends in the arts in real time. The premise is worthwhile and the talent of Angelin Preljocaj is substantial enough that my expectation was perhaps too high. My dissatisfaction was not with the cast or the dance sequences that made LaLa land look like a tryout. My dissatisfaction was with the unrelenting grimness of the plot. It's one thing to set the tone. It's another to suggest that the sun never shines and no one ever smiles or laughs. Thank God for the stunningly attractive male dancers, because the rest of the male cast members looked like they were running a mental tape of homicidal thoughts that they couldn't shut off. Poor Polina was much more attractive and happier as a cocktail waitress than she ever did in the studio. The movie was worth the ticket price for the final dance sequence. The audience should be able to empathize with the main character, without having to struggle as hard as she does to find her true self. If only the choreographer could shortened the struggle a bit, we could have let ourselves enjoy what it was we came to the theater to see: thrilling choreography. If you are an artist of Prelijocaj's talent, you should not short-change your audience. Just like Polina, Prelijocaj may be trying to find his highest calling. At this point, it's not movie-making. Not just Until then, don't shortchange the audience by withholding the wonderful dance sequences.

She took only what was essential from her mentors, her dance became her own expression of longing as achievement! Superbly captured the dimensions that represented her reality that swept her off her feet. .
