Prancer Reviews
Loved this movie as a kid!
I adored this movie, I can't believe I had not seen it before. The little actress that plays Jessica is absolutely darling. I think it's a wonderful holiday movie and a timeless story. And, Sam Elliot...
"Prancer" was a film my 3rd grade teacher put on for the class before Christmas Break. We were only able to get through the first 20 minutes of the movie, and we didn't ever finish the film. It says something, that 25 years later, I was still curious enough to see how the film ended. It was by no means a pressing concern, but it was satisfactory to finally finish it. This film is sort of like "Miracle on 34th Street", but instead of proving that it's Santa, it's about proving the reindeer is Prancer. Combine that with Cloris Leachman playing the old man Marley from Home Alone type character. Speaking of, this film has a crazy cast. There are 2 Oscar Nominees and an Oscar Winner in the cast. Something interesting about the film is the dynamic they demonstrate between the mother, father and aunt. The father, played by Sam Elliot, is seen as very cold and terse with his daughter, Jessica. The aunt, on the other hand, shows nothing but kindness to Jessica. But throughout the film, Jessica is adamant that she wants to live with her dad and not her aunt. I actually give this film a lot of credit for not villainizing the aunt. For the most part this is a film without a villain, and I don't think it needs one. The movie is very sweet, but sometimes too cheesy even for me. The acting, even by the kids, is great. Some of the "kid logic" of the movie is frustrating, but without it I guess the story wouldn't have happened. Now I want 7 movie sequels following adventures of the other reindeer. Come on Hallmark, you got nothing better to do.
Innocence and Christmas magic.
Not the best wrong or direction, but Jessica (Rebecca Harrell absolutely makes the film.
A charming, timeless and simple Christmas story. Filled to the brim with thoughtfulness and reminders to care for those around you.
The ratings on here for this darling melancholiac tearjerker turned heartwarmer is true proof why people don't trust reviews anymore. This is a terrific holiday film that stays with you. The unusual tone, creative story and wonderful performance of the young girl played by Rebecca Harrell Tickell and a rarely sympathetic Sam Elliot—make this a best kept secret. Watch it. But don't expect a cutesy cardboard Christmas movie. It has a realistic, almost haunting feel that is probably the reason it never took off. But this is what makes it stand on its own—a rare gem.
A personal favorite. Family friendly down to the youngest twinkle - eyed toddler, this is one that keeps me coming back year after year. A genuine love for the season and her mother, the young lead famously carries this film on her shoulders.
This just didn't work for me, maybe as a 30 minute 온라인카지노추천 special but as feature film running 103 minutes means a lot of needless padding and melodrama. Plus, the reason she comes to the conclusion it's Prancer specifically is because the Prancer street decoration fell from a street light. It takes the bulk of the movie to find out if she's right or crazy. I know they were going for a reindeer version of "Miracle on 34th Street", but it doesn't work as this has none of the charm, whimsy or likable characters. Jessica is such a whiny brat that I wouldn't care if she was hauled off to the loony bin.
A cute, good-natured entry in the Christmas film library, Prancer might be corny at times but the really good performance from its child star and the sincere storytelling make it a heartwarming film that can be considered an underrated classic in some circles...and likely to cause less concern in parents over giving impressionable children false hope like in One Magic Christmas.
A frequently charming yet occasionally meandering Christmas flick that seems to have flown under most people's radars, Prancer features an excellent central performance from Rebecca Harrell Tickell, who makes her character likeable, compelling and understandable. Her quest to save what she believes to be one of Santa Claus' reindeers involves a lot of guile and determination, and her willingness to do whatever she can makes her the most relatable person in the film. It can be very dull at times, and the conflict between Jess and her best friends often feels forced and unnatural, though I did like their discussions about more adult themes such as death, God and the afterlife. It's nice to hear what a child would have to say about those topics. If you sit down to watch it, I doubt it'll become a Christmas staple of yours, but I reckon you'll still enjoy it nonetheless.
A wonderful, heartwarming story set in middle America about a girl's interaction with an injured reindeer that she cares for and comes to love. The audience score of 58% makes me wonder if they polled an audience of people with the last name of Scrooge.
Yes, I watched this for the first time in 1990 expecting an instant satisfaction supernatural Christmas movie about a magic reindeer and was disappointed by the lack of what had been spoon fed to me for years. Watch it again. This is a movie that builds, has almost as much character as Sam Elliot himself, and leaves your imagination to decide if Prancer was sent here by Santa, or Jessica's mother. If you don't tear up when Sam reads her the excerpt from "yes Virginia there is a Santa Claus" well then you aren't human, or don't believe in Christmas and so Bah Humbug. This one's on my top 5 Christmas movies and is masterful.
a magical and wonderful Christmas movie. I wish the audience score was much better because it deserves it.
This is one of my all-time favorite Christmas movies. That little girl deserves and Academy Award. The story is sweet and the acting is fantastic. It's one of my go-to movies every year.
Cute but not magical this drama is a good film for kids but for family it's not that memorable
It's a typical feel-good Christmas story plot, but made quite enjoyable by excellent child performances and the inclusion of Sam Elliot.
Prancer is a heartwarming children's Christmas movie about a girl finding a raindeer and wanting to keep it as a pet, but she has to come to the decision to keep it or give the deer back to Santa creating a movie of happiness, sadness, and some drama.
None of the charm really felt earned, and the whole time I just ended up feeling rather uncomfortable and awkward. There's better ways to spend your time
