Precious: Based on the Novel "Push" by Sapphire Reviews
Absolute knife to the heart 🔪 ❤️ While it isn't perfect, with documentary style camera work and an uneven soundtrack, it's easily one of the best films I've ever seen set in 1980s NYC. The screenplay and acting are 11/10 unbelievably, unequivocally fantastic. Unless you are totally checked out, jaded beyond belief, or have some kind of empathy disability, you will be utterly destroyed by this film.
Although very difficult to watch at times , the performances and message is more than worth it
Good movie, but not great. I was expecting something darker, I felt it was kind of light.
Hard hitting and grim. Uncomfortable to watch at times but ultimately redeeming.
Very heartbreaking but hopeful at the same time. Knowing that thing like these happen in reality and not just on the screen shatters my heart. This was beautifully made and it's a recommended watch.
Uncomfortable and intense. Noble film that seeks truth which makes it a winner. The best thing about this film is that it promotes the best out of Precious which gives the ending a message of hope.
Poor unconvincing melodrama.
The life of an overweight teenage woman growing up in Harlem.
A depressing, powerful and moving movie, that is told with as much grace and heart as could be possible. It's no date movie.
Impossível não sofrer com essa história avassaladora.
Filme sensacional. Atores muito bem escolhidos pois conduzem a história da maneira tão triste como ela realmente é. Mariah está sensacional aqui.
The best acting performance from Mo'Nique!
This superb film is sharply is directed and brilliantly acted. Lee Daniel's gritty drama is equally harrowing and inspiring. There is a light at the end of the tunnel, but first he has to drag us through the grimy, ugly side of human nature. That is represented by a fearless and riveting tour de force by Mo'Nique, who is downright frightening to behold as the classic "welfare queen" who sits around living off government checks, watching game shows and verbally and physically abusing her daughter. It's one of the best performances of the year. The title character is portrayed with calculation by rookie actress Gabourey Sidibe, who is an astonishing revelation. She creates shadings of strength under Precious' off-putting demeanor and eventually wins over our respect. She also gets a great scene where she will absolutely break your heart. Paula Patton, Lenny Kravitz, and a seriously dressed down Mariah Carey provide great support. Like many great films, it finds the humor and horror of a life of struggle. The script gives our heroine one obstacle after another to overcome. We take that emotional journey with her and root for her along the way. By the film's closing dedication--"for precious girls everywhere"--you will have been touched by this moving tale of human tragedy and triumphant humanity
Such a powerful movie, I’ve never more moved and shocked watching a movie. It’s greatly acted and greatly shot. Not a movie that I will ever watch again, but very glad I can say I’ve seen this amazing movie
I Loved the Movie. 😊
Despite being very grim and depressing, the film is ultimately a triumph in almost every front, with the incredible acting, storyline and it's underlaying message.
Very powerful movie in so many ways. Hope for a better life is stronger than anything else...
