The script is the straw that stirs this drink, and it blends the acting and direction into quite a movie. The performances have a natural realism to them, an awkwardness or imperfectness that is so true to life. It's funny in moments and obviously affecting in others, but it's the film's ability to live in the mundanity, the presence, the unknown, and the unresolved that is what I'll remember most.

Fantastic cast, amazingly detailed, and super relatable.

Loved this movie. Giamatti, Hahn, and Carter brought us right into their characters' world with brilliant acting and a heart wrenching storyline. It's a movie that doesn't give you what you want, but maybe what you need.

Very good movie about real life with all it's challenges, rewards, disappointments... the acting and writing are first rate. If you like acting, actors, writing you will like this movie.

It's a slow and simmering tale of such a difficult and emotive struggle, and it is done so well. PG is phenomenal, and I love how ‘balanced' the whole thing is - that it isn't solely sculpted from the empowered female perspective, but that it takes a considered approach, navigating the topic with as objective a stance as possible. This all shows brilliant directing and writing. It feels a little mundane at the end, however, which takes it down a notch

brilliant domestic drama about a couple trying all means to have a baby. Balances wonderfully between comedy and (near-)tragedy. Quiet, subtle and sympathetic portrayal of all those involved (except possibly the mother of the couple's ovum donor)

Serious look at challenges of an older couple trying to have kids. There's no right and wrong, there's a complication involving requesting someone from the family to offer her oocites for the pregnancy, attemps at adoption and in the end the couple sticks together, despite there being no solution.

This was horrendous. Waste of time.

This movie was mega depressing with little to NO comic relief. If you're looking to shoot yourself and get yourself in the mood, by all means watch this movie. Otherwise, I'd give it a hard pass.

Heartfelt drama about a couple's efforts to have or adopt a baby. Excellent performances throughout make this a must see film about a theme that concerns many people all over the planet.

I am a big fan of Paul Giamatti. He could not save this mess of a movie. As someone who went through years of infertility treatments, I thought I would be able to relate to this movie. It is so far off and unbearable to watch. Turned it off after 45 min.

Don't fall for all of the positive reviews from the "Critics." Private Life starts off as a witty dark comedy/drama, and while Paul Giamatti's performance is excellent, the 2nd half of this film will leave you depressed and feeling empty.....you may wanna pass this film up.

Have a kid in your 40s while still living the artist life. A slice of life drama about trying all your options.

This movie is terrible with an unsatisfying ending. I call it an ending because there is no conclusion. The characters are stuck in purgatory and so are the viewers.
