Prom Night Reviews
20/100 - I laughed when someone wrote 'This is the movie that you put on when you wash your hair and nothing more". True
How do you not improve on the 1980 one which wasn't good to begin with. HOW?!? The editing and pacing are terrible. It feels like scenes are out of order and in the wrong spots. The character development stuff and setting up the killer should've been at the start and comes in the middle. The kills are completely pointless. You could edit them out completely and nothing would be lost just showing the aftermath. Everything else isn't good here. The supporting cast all blends in terribly. Snow is alright and probably the best thing in this but it feels like even she dissappears as this loses focus and jumps around terribly in the middle with pointless kills, out of order character moments, and Elba's scenes hunting the killer. The end where he pulls a Hannibel Lector escaping the hotel by having enough time to hide the body, change, and escape is so farfetched it's ridiculous. The fact he kills his partner, her boyfriend while he's sleeping, and another officer while sneaking by everyone else is so ridiculosly farfeched it belongs in Rise of Skywalker. The direction is super basic also and none of the kills stand out at all. They all look the same. The killer is lame also and looks like Robert Rodriguez. It never feels like a game of cat and mouse and never sets up the relationship between the killler and Snow well at all. Don't forget to also add in the pointless jumpscares. The idea of fixing the issues of the 1980 one completely are botched. Skip This.
This is the kind of movie you put on when you are washing your hair. It is what it is and nothing more.
I get that this movie is objectively terrible, but it is such a guilty pleasure of mine. The bad acting, the cut-away murders, the dumb plot, everything comes together to make Prom Night so dang enjoyable. This film has two separate identities: one is a petty high school drama where the girls make fun of the lesbian teacher, bicker with the popular girl and reminisce about the good ol' days while anxiously dreading graduation. The other is a creepy slasher flick involving an obsessed teacher who kills people in front of their children, stashes bodies in the ceiling and cries while looking at a camera (with a dead body sitting next to him). Unfortunately, these two storylines conflict with each other more than they build off one another. That being said, there is a special place in my teenage heart for Prom Night. Every few years I have to revisit this movie just to remember that it exists. Best Character: Lisa Best Quote: "Michael is making me so darn mad. And on top of that, I have killer cramps!" - Claire Best Scene: The Construction Level Murder Note: Shoutout to Ronnie. Poor guy didn't know what he was signing up for by being friends with Donna. Note 2: Uncle Jack deserved to die. Note 3: This movie made me HATE the mirrors that open/shut. Too many jump scares.
Absolutely garbage "remake" there's no connection to the original Prom Night really terrible screenplay and really terrible villain.
Unfairly maligned Prom Night remake is a watchable thriller. Not good, but it doesn't deserve to be vivisected like it's been.
Meh not my cup of tea
Op zich een goede film, maar iemand die nachtmerries heeft en dan zomaar haar gevoel negeert ?, nee dat gaat er bij mij niet in.
This movie was actually so ass — not complex at all and totally predictable. I did not care about the characters at all LOLL, they're all just typical thriller stereotypes. You literally know who the killer is, along with the bare minimum of backstory — so there's no surprise twist or even satisfaction in finding out who the killer is. Probably would've liked it more if they had more on why he was so obsessed. Seemed like it was effortlessly made and was annoying to watch
Really campy but really fun too.
Pretty overhated but that doesn't make Prom Night a good movie as this movie has a forgettable story & a lazy main villain.
If I could give this movie zero stars I would. So f-ing awful, no suspense, you know who the killer is from the very beginning....like an old episode of Columbia. AVOID THIS MOVIE
Good first horror movie, if you can call it that. Hardly a slasher, not good enough for a drama. Next time Nelson McCormick, next time.
meh. it's not good or bad; it's what you'd expect it to be i think.
"Prom Night" is an unquestionably bad movie but it also can be entertaining because of how bad it is. This a dumb slasher movie that is completely generic and doesn't do anything new to reinvent the genre. The acting is not great and the movie is just silly because the plot exists only because the characters keep leaving their prom to swing by their hotel room, where a killer is waiting. This movie lacks any sort of plot twists to make it engaging, and because of its PG-13 rating, it is low on violence so the kills are not really inventive like they are in other slasher movies. I also think the jump scares are comical in this movie and at every turn it is pretty much the same gimmick, and mostly just people appearing in a mirror. Overall, it is a bad movie that shows the slasher horror genre at its worst, but it is also a very ridiculous movie that I could find myself watching with a group of friends for a bad movie night.
y’all underrating and hating
A decent straight forward thriller with no twists and turns that would've been better served with an R movie rating.
Girl who was attacked and survived the attack. Has always thought she would be attacked again. At her prom death starts to happen. Pretty decent movie.
The acting was terrible. There's something off about the reactions of the lead girl at all times... She seemed like she was upset over spilled milk rather than devastated and traumatised by all the deaths around her. The way the story was conducted was... I guess it's okay if you think of it as a crime report rather than a horror movie.
So much potential. Wasted. Not worth your time.
