Prospect Reviews
Excellent acting, compelling characters, and great production design elevate this masterpiece in science fiction filmmaking to cult-classic status.
As soon as she DOESN'T kill her father's killer, the movie is BS.
Loved Prospect. Low budget, but a better story than most. Made me think of some of the old SF magazines. An extraterrestrial environment composed primarily of terrestrial vegetation was disappointing at first, but I got around to accepting Olympic Peninsula rainforest as invasive plant species from Earth (like kudzu in the southeastern US). Pascal was great as a hardened but charismatic opportunist with a taste for florid language, and Thatcher (his complete opposite in all respects) powered through adolescent terror and uncertainty with a very convincing performance.
Ridiculous story-line and the dialogue from medieval times. This is like Shakespeare in spacesuits!
A decent effort, despite the basic storyline. Excellent acting and SFX. It made the most of a low-budget. I found the dialogue difficult to understand at times due to the in helmet sound recording. Had to use subtitles to keep up with the storyline. The quirky lingo delivered by one of the main characters was at times contrived. It felt like the writers were paying homage to Deadwood. Overall not a bad movie.
Well acted pretty limited story telling. Low budget limited world building but good character development that you get invested in. It is not action packed but at 95 minutes it works
It's been a couple times now I've tried to watch this (unintentionally repeated) and I remembered why I stopped watching the first time. Just too slow. Too little stakes. Cheap sci-fi loses the essence of the genre, which is cosmic scale. Cool cast tho
Interesting concept and excellently written, but still felt like there was something missing.
We need more movies like this
Interesting flick. Don't underestimate this film. Rather than write a detailed review for Prospect, there's a great "audience" review for this movie on Reddit with spoilers (r/TrueFilm). Type in "Prospect Reddit." Really puts everything you need to know in perspective. Couldn't have explained the movie any better myself. I recomend this film, but no distractions. You have to pay attention. One reviewer here even says Prospect had a bad ending. I didn't get that at all. As far as I'm concerned, it had a good ending. Definitely worth watching.
It's a fairly straightforward story, but its aesthetics and its worldbuilding are so sublime as to elevate it to something more than the mere sum of its story beats.
Prospect is not a massive film. It feels pretty small scale, despite being an adventure on another planet. The film does have a rushed ending in my opinion. And at some points, feels a bit underdeveloped. However, I did like the characters, and how they progressed. The story was gripping. The acting was top notch. And the score was better than I expected! I'd say, the film isn't perfect, but definitely worth a watch. Especially if you enjoy gritty sci-fi.
What a low budget piece of senseless garbage.
Fine sci-fi movie. The world making is sparse but details suggest a fully worked out ecosystem. Amazing photography and mood. Characters start as two- dimensional but flesh out and develop through the film. As previously said, much like a western set in a changed world, suggestive of a gold rush. Loved the retro technology. And the mechanical breakdowns. Shows the desperation to make a strike, and the greed to make it big. I would watch it again.
WTF. WHY MAKE THIS MOVIE?
A very strange story, with a very complicated plot, and most important whithout a happy ending. It's one of these stories you don't want to be that way, but you still like it.
Yeah, great film. I really enjoyed it.
Great small-budget sci-fi flick. Really an overlooked and underrated piece, better than most bigger movies on recent years. I'd die to get some more of this.
There's much to love about the aesthetics of this film, especially for any fan of sci-fi. It's easy to be sucked into the flipping of analog style switches, hand cranked cleaners, old-school air hoses and oxygen filters, and pew-pew lazer guns. There's mysterious flora that hisses and gurgles, and egg sacs filled with meat, acid, and valuable crystals. The well-written, flourished spoken script only adds to the intriguing directions this film ultimately takes. The ending is one big, beautiful smile. So much to enjoy here!
This movie is awesome. I don't know what to tell you I had so much fun watching this. The cinematography is gorgeous, and the two leads make this a formidable ride. Highly recommended if you looking for something new and riveting.
